LabCultural Barcelona is an independent artistic and cultural platform based in Barcelona that functions as a living laboratory for transdisciplinary creation, research and cultural mediation. Founded by artists and cultural practitioners, the initiative operates through a small collaborative team of approximately 4 core members and a broader network of associated artists, curators, researchers and cultural workers.
The organisation develops projects that connect artistic practice with social dialogue, ecological awareness and intercultural exchange, particularly within Mediterranean and international contexts.
LabCultural works through flexible and process-based formats including artistic residencies, exhibitions, research laboratories, workshops, public conversations and collaborative artistic productions. The platform prioritises experimental methodologies, community engagement and cross-disciplinary collaboration between visual arts, performance, sound, photography and social practices.
On average, the organisation activates between 8 and 12 artistic and cultural initiatives per year, working with both local and international artists and fostering dialogue between artistic communities and wider audiences.
Mission and Objectives
LabCultural Barcelona is dedicated to fostering intercultural dialogue, artistic experimentation and socially engaged cultural practices within the Mediterranean region and beyond. The platform operates as a collaborative space where artists, researchers and cultural practitioners can explore the relationships between body, territory, ecology and cultural identity.
Our mission is to create environments where artistic processes become tools for dialogue, reflection and collective imagination. Through transdisciplinary artistic practices, we aim to address contemporary social questions such as gender equality, ecological awareness, cultural diversity and the role of art in shaping more inclusive societies.
LabCultural promotes artistic methodologies based on collaboration, care and non-extractive cultural exchange. By connecting artists from different cultural backgrounds, the organisation seeks to build bridges between communities and contribute to a more open and plural cultural landscape within the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Main Projects / Activities
LabCultural develops a variety of artistic and cultural initiatives that connect contemporary artistic practice with social dialogue and intercultural exchange.
Key activities include:
• Artistic residencies and research laboratories bringing together artists from different disciplines to develop collaborative projects and explore shared cultural questions.
• Curatorial projects and exhibitions addressing themes such as gender representation, memory, body politics and contemporary visual culture.
• Public programs and community activities, including workshops, talks and participatory artistic events that invite audiences to engage directly with artistic processes.
• Transdisciplinary collaborations between performance, photography, sound art and visual practices.
Recent projects include exhibitions focused on feminist artistic perspectives, curatorial initiatives highlighting photographers working in conflict contexts, and collaborative artistic encounters that bring together artists from different countries and cultural traditions.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
LabCultural Barcelona can contribute to the network by creating opportunities for artistic exchange, collaborative research and intercultural dialogue between Mediterranean cultural communities.
Through our platform, we can host artistic encounters, residencies and public programs that connect artists, curators and cultural practitioners from different regions of the Mediterranean. Our work often focuses on themes such as gender perspectives, cultural memory and the role of artistic practices in social transformation.
By collaborating with organisations and artists from other countries in the network, we aim to facilitate new partnerships, co-curated projects and knowledge exchange between cultural actors working in different contexts.
LabCultural can also serve as a bridge between artistic communities in Spain and the wider Mediterranean region, particularly by supporting initiatives that encourage dialogue between European, North African and Middle Eastern artists. We are already in partnership with cultural venues in Marroco and Cairo.

Joining the Anna Lindh Foundation Network would allow LabCultural Barcelona to strengthen its commitment to intercultural dialogue within the Mediterranean region.
Our artistic and curatorial work is deeply connected to questions of cultural exchange, identity and collective imagination. Being part of the network would create valuable opportunities to collaborate with organisations that share similar values and to participate in initiatives that promote mutual understanding between societies across the Mediterranean.
We are particularly interested in developing projects that connect artists and cultural practitioners from different regions, creating spaces where artistic practice can become a tool for dialogue, reflection and shared learning.
The network represents an important platform to build meaningful partnerships and to expand collaborative artistic projects that contribute to cultural understanding and cooperation across borders.
