General Information

Labolobo brings together the ages in our city, in a creative and cross-disciplinary way. We fight isolation and age-related stereotypes. We focus on empathy, respect and solidarity. Because we can all learn a lot from each other. Because age cannot be a constraint. Because intergenerational exchange is the basis for better living together.

Mission and Objectives

Since 2014, asbl Labolobo has been bridging age gaps in Brussels in creative, cross-cutting ways for greater social cohesion. We combat isolation and age-related stereotypes by setting up intergenerational exchanges and building on empathy, respect and solidarity.

Main Projects / Activities

Labolobo is based on 4 pillars:

MA projects bring together people from local institutions, such as schools and nursing homes. Participants are guided towards the creation of shared moments, stories, smiles... around artistic activities such as drawing, dancing, singing, writing...

TUKTUKJette offers an alternative mobility service for people with reduced autonomy. Volunteers transport the elderly in colorful, electric tuktuks/rikshaws. They offer a whole range of services, from a simple bike ride to a medical appointment, to a cultural outing or shopping trip. But above all, this means of transport offers its users, who are often prone to isolation, a way of staying in touch with the world.

The Labolobo space, located in the north of the city, features a varied weekly program of activities for all ages, from mindfulness to language classes, yoga, coding, kung fu, choir, guitar lessons, etc. SPECIALS, one-off activities in the form of short cycles, are also organized there.

The fourth and final pillar concerns the creation of projects in the public space, with an emphasis on accessibility, visibility and participatory creativity. Everything to bring people together in common action.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Labolobo has been around for more than a decade, so we have built up a lot of expertise in connecting students from schools and nursing home residents. We would love to share these insights!

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

It's great to connect with other initiatives that work with the same target group.
