General Information

Launch Pad Finland is a non-profit organization that has been operating since 2016 in Kainuu Region, Finland. Our association aims to promote internationalization, regional and international networking, and the well-being and quality of life of people, especially young and young adults in our region, as well as to improve opportunities for participation in local and regional development work.

Mission and Objectives

We worked with people of all ages, at the beginning focusing mostly on youth, but nowadays we provide services for young adults and families. Since the beginning of our activities, we worked in close cooperation with regional and municipality officials, educational institutions, local businesses and other stakeholders. We have adapted the African proverb as our moto “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Launch Pad is an enthusiastic international group of young adults with a very strong will to challenge ourselves by learning new skills together, expanding our networks with international projects, and creating meaningful initiatives in the community where we live. We aim to inspire others to step out of their comfort zone and experience something new that might be challenging but self-growing.

Main Projects / Activities

We have about 8 years of experience in non-formal education as a NGO. We have been organizing different education events, workshops, seminars, webinars etc. Some of our favorite topics are intercultural communications, networking, negotiation and constructive dialogues, creative confidence building, design thinking and service design, social entrepreneurship, project design and project management.  Some examples of our international projects are:  Recycling Roadshow -project (Erasmus +) Youth project incubator (Rural Development Funds, Leader) Pop-up innovative playground ”Build & Play Academy” (Leader) Social cross-border entrepreneurship (CBC Karelia) Social Entrepreneurship for Education and Development (Erasmus +)

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

In recent years we became very interested in dialogue as a methodology. We contributed to the planning and implementation of the international project “Bridging Youth and Regional Development Through Dialogue” in Kainuu Finland and in Nordland, Norway. We have organized several dialogue events with the Regional Council of Kainuu ja local Kajaani University of Applied Science on different themes like youth engagement, international recruitment in the region, and international students as a part of the local community.  Several of our members have dialogue facilitator certificates issued by TimeOut. Timeout is an open-source model, which consists of tools and guidelines for facilitating constructive dialogues.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We come from the relatively small, sparsely populated, and remote region Kainuu, located in Northern-Eastern Finland. Kainuu is Belgium-size region, with only 88.000 inhabitants and it is located on the border with Russia. The region is known for its clean & beautiful nature. The specifics of our location on the border, environment, and remoteness affected the activities of the NGO since its establishment. We believe that international collaboration strengthens the capacity of our organizations, opens new opportunities, and helps to address local challenges and needs. Cross-border partnership cooperation will give us opportunities to expand our viewpoints, combine the best practices from different methodologies, and engage people from different backgrounds, from different border areas to learn and develop their skills and communities.
