General Information

Lighthouse Relief fills gaps in humanitarian support for people seeking refuge - we are now in our tenth
year of supporting refugees and asylum seekers in Greece. Initially, we provided an emergency shoreline
response on Lesvos, and more recently we have delivered social services in Athens and sports
programmes for children living in mainland refugee camps. We are an independent non-profit
organisation registered in Greece and Sweden with no political or religious affiliation.
Through sports, our “Score4TheFuture” project addresses the particular psychological and social needs
of refugees living in the isolated Ritsona camp. The approach is trauma-informed and aims to foster
safety, trustworthiness, collaboration, empowerment, and healing following Sport For Development
methodologies.
We pride ourselves on the quality and impact of our work - Last year we earned prestigious international
recognition, winning a Peace and Sport Award in the “Empowerment Through Sport” category.

Mission and Objectives

Our Mission is to fill gaps in humanitarian protection for people seeking refuge. Our ethos of flexibility, accountability, and inclusivity, means that we adapt quickly to evolving needs on the ground and draw on the experiences of team members and partners who have lived as refugees to shape our response.
We aim to: Run quality programming (Target the needs of underserved/hard-to-reach populations within the refugee and asylum-seeking community based on regular needs assessment); Be accountable to the communities we serve (Prioritise their needs and incorporate them into programme design and implementation); Keep our programming flexible (Adapt to the evolving needs of our target population, changes in the political environment, or unforeseen circumstances); Pursue and maintain partnerships (Partner with trustworthy actors working toward shared goals to benefit from additional brainpower, capacity and cost efficiency); Coordinate services and activities with other actors (Prevent duplication and maximise our collective impact).

Main Projects / Activities

Our main current project is Sports Programmes for the residents of Ritsona refugee camp, north of Athens.
