General Information

Makan Aamm is an arts and culture satellite social enterprise founded in November 2022 by Ramah Aleryan and Mostafa Nageh.
Unlike traditional cultural centers, it operates without a fixed location. Instead, it moves across cities in Egypt to decentralize access to arts and culture, intentionally challenging the concentration of cultural activity in Cairo and Alexandria.
This mobile, collaborative model allows it to:
Activate underutilized spaces
Partner with local communities
Build cultural bridges between cities
Extend opportunities to artists and audiences outside major metropolitan hubs

Mission and Objectives

Makan Aamm aims to:
Extend the reach of art — especially music — beyond Cairo and Alexandria
Empower emerging creatives to showcase their work and grow their skills
Create collaborative opportunities between artists from different regions
Facilitate intersections between art and social causes
Connect Egyptian artists with international collaborators
Support arts programming that lacks the funding or networks to travel
A strong part of your vision is addressing geographical and social inequality in access to culture, especially for youth in marginalized regions such as Upper Egypt and other cities outside cultural capitals.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

As co-founder of Makan Aamm, a satellite cultural platform working beyond Cairo and Alexandria, my contribution to the Anna Lindh Foundation network would focus on decentralizing Euro-Mediterranean cultural dialogue and expanding access to underrepresented communities in Egypt.
First, I would contribute by activating ALF-related programming outside major metropolitan centers. Through Makan Aamm’s mobile model, we are able to host concerts, residencies, and community-based cultural activities in cities such as Port Said and Aswan. This would allow the network’s values of intercultural dialogue and cooperation to reach youth and creatives who often lack access to international cultural exchange.
Second, I would initiate cross-border artistic collaborations between Egyptian artists and artists from other Mediterranean countries, particularly in the field of music and interdisciplinary performance. These collaborations would combine artistic production with community engagement components, ensuring that exchange is not limited to performance but extends to dialogue and shared learning.
Third, I would contribute knowledge and experience in building sustainable cultural initiatives. Through my work in fundraising, grant writing, and managing hybrid cultural models, I can support peer organizations within the network by sharing practical tools for long-term sustainability and partnership development.
Finally, I would actively engage in network meetings and working groups, contributing perspectives on cultural decentralization, youth engagement, and the role of creative industries in social cohesion across the Mediterranean region.
Through these contributions, my aim is to strengthen the network’s impact in Egypt by expanding its geographic reach, deepening its community engagement, and fostering meaningful, artist-led intercultural exchange.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

I want to continue as a member of the Anna Lindh Foundation Network because it aligns deeply with both my personal commitment to intercultural dialogue and the mission of Makan Aamm as a decentralized cultural platform in Egypt.
The network provides a meaningful space for collaboration across the Mediterranean — not only at an institutional level, but also among grassroots cultural actors. For me, remaining part of the network means continuing to build bridges between Egyptian artists and their counterparts in other Mediterranean countries, particularly through music and interdisciplinary cultural programming.
I also want to continue because I believe the network benefits from stronger engagement beyond capital cities. Through Makan Aamm’s satellite model, I am able to activate cultural initiatives in cities that are often excluded from international exchange. Staying within the ALF Network allows me to contribute to expanding its reach geographically and socially, ensuring that intercultural dialogue includes youth and communities outside traditional cultural hubs.
Finally, I value the long-term relationships and shared learning within the network. Continuing as a member allows for sustained collaboration rather than one-off projects, which I believe is essential for building trust, impact, and genuine Mediterranean cooperation.
Remaining in the network is therefore not only about participation, but about deepening engagement, widening access, and contributing actively to a more inclusive Euro-Mediterranean cultural ecosystem.
