General Information

Nablus Municipality, a semi-governmental institution established in 1869, is considered one of the largest Palestinian institutions and is governed by fifteen elected members. It operates under the administrative laws of the Ministry of Local Government. Nablus Municipality operates under a hierarchical structure comprising various departments, including the Water and Sewage Department, Administrative Department, Engineering Department, Health Services Department, Financial Department, and Public Services Department. It employs a total of 1,500 staff members, including 204 women.

Mission and Objectives

Mission : To enhance the quality of life for citizens by providing comprehensive infrastructure, health, environmental, and cultural services through the optimal utilization of financial and human resources, all while preserving the city's cultural and historical heritage.
Objectives :
- Develop and improve infrastructure services.
- Promote the socio-economic sector in the city.
- Enhance digital communication with the public.

Main Projects / Activities

Nablus Municipality providing citizens with clean water, managing solid waste, connecting properties to the sewage network, paving and maintaining roads and streets, and establishing schools, gardens, and public stairways. The Municipality also operates a fire department and manages five cultural centers for youth and children, in addition to a major commercial complex. All projects are implemented in line with the Municipality’s strategic plan, which is prepared every four years with broad participation from the community and relevant stakeholders.
Additionally, Nablus Municipality strives to align its initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:”
•SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: Enhancing urban infrastructure, promoting sustainable urban planning, and conserving cultural heritage.
•SDG 13 – Climate Action: Advancing environmental sustainability and mitigating the impacts of climate change.

Nablus Municipality is considered the main institution and a strategic partner for most local organizations in the city. It reflects the needs and priorities of citizens through its strategic plan, which is developed in consultation with all relevant stakeholders and institutions across the city.
