The Nubian Heritage Association is a cultural organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the intangible cultural heritage of Nubia. The association works on documenting, safeguarding, and raising awareness about Nubian traditions, folklore, language, and craftsmanship. It also engages in research, educational programs, and community-based initiatives to support cultural sustainability.
Founded with a commitment to heritage preservation, the association collaborates with local and international institutions to ensure the transmission of Nubian heritage to future generations. Through events, publications, and capacity-building programs, the association plays a key role in protecting and revitalizing Nubian cultural expressions.
Mission and Objectives
Mission:
The Nubian Heritage Association aims to safeguard and promote Nubian intangible cultural heritage through documentation, research, and awareness, ensuring its continuity and transmission to future generations.
Objectives:
Documenting Nubian Heritage: Recording and preserving Nubian folklore, language, traditions, and traditional crafts to prevent their disappearance.
Awareness and Education: Spreading knowledge about Nubian culture through events, workshops, publications, and educational programs.
Empowering the Nubian Community: Supporting artisans and cultural practitioners by providing training and marketing opportunities to enhance heritage sustainability.
Collaboration and Partnerships: Establishing relationships with local and international organizations to strengthen efforts in preserving Nubian heritage.
Transmitting Knowledge to Future Generations: Developing educational and awareness programs targeting youth to ensure the continuity of Nubian culture.
Main Projects / Activities
Nubian Folklore Documentation Project:
Recording and archiving traditional Nubian stories, proverbs, songs, and oral history to preserve them for future generations.
Workshops and Training for Artisans:
Organizing capacity-building programs for Nubian craftsmen in traditional arts such as pottery, weaving, and jewelry-making to support sustainable cultural practices.
Educational Programs and Awareness Campaigns:
Conducting school visits, seminars, and community events to raise awareness about Nubian heritage among youth and the general public.
Cultural Festivals and Exhibitions:
Hosting annual events showcasing Nubian music, dance, and crafts to promote cultural appreciation and tourism.
Research and Publications:
Supporting academic studies and publishing books, articles, and digital content on Nubian intangible cultural heritage.

Partnering with global institutions and UNESCO initiatives to contribute to the safeguarding of Nubian culture on an international level.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
I can contribute to the Network in my country by leveraging my expertise in intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and my role as the Director of the Nubian Heritage Association. My contributions include:
Mapping and Connecting NGOs: Facilitating collaboration among cultural heritage organizations and supporting the creation of a national database of ICH NGOs.
Advocacy and Policy Engagement: Engaging with governmental and non-governmental entities to promote policies that safeguard cultural heritage.
Capacity Building: Organizing training programs and workshops for heritage professionals, researchers, and community members.
Research and Documentation: Conducting studies on folklore, traditional crafts, and oral heritage, ensuring their preservation and dissemination.
International Collaboration: Strengthening ties between local and international heritage networks, promoting knowledge exchange and joint initiatives.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
I want to join the ALF Network to contribute to the promotion and preservation of intangible cultural heritage within the Euro-Mediterranean region. As the Director of the Nubian Heritage Association, I believe that collaboration with like-minded organizations will enhance knowledge exchange, support cultural dialogue, and strengthen efforts to safeguard diverse traditions. Joining the network will also provide opportunities to engage in capacity-building initiatives, share best practices, and develop partnerships that foster cross-cultural understanding. Through this membership, I aim to connect local heritage initiatives with broader regional and international frameworks, ensuring greater visibility and impact for our work.
