General Information

Ögonblicksteatern is a professional independent theatre with subsidy from the municipality, the region, the Swedish Arts Council and from varied foundations. We play about our time and direct the spotlight where society rubs. To the invisible, the undiscovered, the unseen and the impermissible to make it accessible and enchanting. We want to show new images of reality by seeking the hitherto invisible and unseen. We are constantly trying to find new stories to portray on stage. To believe that another reality is possible, new images of reality need to be presented. In the issue of accessibility, Ögonblicksteatern has found a great artistic development potential for the performing arts. We work to put all bodies and thoughts in focus by working with an ensemble of people with norm-breaking and norm-following functionality. We have our stage centrally down by the river in Umeå and in addition to theater, concerts, lectures, meetings and much more take place here. We believe that all culture is created in the meeting, that what is created is never static, that culture is to give everyone access to a place where you can get an impression and give expression. As part of this, Ögonblicksteatern works to make the performing arts accessible to everyone. The venue is fully accessible and we work with various artistic means to create opportunities for everyone to take part in and practice performing arts. Everyone has the right to a place, everyone has the right to culture!

Mission and Objectives

Our aim is to make the stage mirror the reality and we do this by allowing different types of bodies and stories on the stage. Today our area of competence, apart from theatre and dramatic art, are accessibility, normative power systems and democratic rights. Ögonblicksteatern create theatre to make norms visible and questioned. To make the theatre accessible, we must examine the world around us and our way of giving it form. To be able to believe that another reality is possible we need new images/descriptions of reality to be offered.
