General Information

Bozar is a multidisciplinary arts centre located in the heart of Brussels, housed in an iconic Art Deco building from the 1920s designed by Belgian architect Victor Horta. As a public limited company with a social purpose (société anonyme de droit public à finalité sociale), Bozar operates under the Federal State of Belgium while working closely with its regions and communities.
In 2024, Bozar welcomed approximately 600,000 visitors, offering a rich programme of exhibitions, music, literature, cinema, performances, architecture, digital projects, talks, and audience-focused activities. For over 15 years, Bozar has been a key stakeholder in numerous EU projects, including the STARTS Prize and Studiotopia, making it a pivotal cultural and creative platform within Europe.

Mission and Objectives

Bozar is dedicated to offering a multidisciplinary and fully integrated cultural programme that strengthens the European and international profile of Belgium (its federal state, its communities, and the Brussels-Capital Region). Through ambitious cultural productions, collaborative co‑productions, and the accessibility of its infrastructure, Bozar aims to foster creative exchanges, stimulate dialogue between diverse audiences, and champion the role of culture as a catalyst for connection and understanding across borders.

Bozar transforms to sustain. Here, artists, audiences, and staff are united by the transformative power of art. In a world at a tipping point, facing profound ethical, demographic, democratic, and ecological challenges, Bozar embraces art as a catalyst for personal and collective change.

Bozar inhales and inspires. It operates like a laboratory for imagining and testing ways for society to evolve: exploring how both ancient and contemporary art can contribute to broader social transformations. Grounded in democratic and ethical values, Bozar strives for a more inclusive, equal, and sustainable society.

The artistic project is global and synonymous with the unique architecture of the Horta Fine Arts Center and the city of Brussels.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

With its multidisciplinary and international approach, Bozar can play a pivotal role in fostering dialogue between cultures across the Euro‑Mediterranean area. As a landmark institution in Brussels, BOZAR can:
Develop cross‑cultural programmes that highlight Mediterranean heritage and contemporary cultural exchanges, as developed within the framework of the European Halaqat project, which fosters connections between artists and cultural professionals from Arab and European countries. The second edition of this initiative invites reflection on gender-related issues in both regions, addressing gender equity, sensitivity, and power dynamics through an inclusive and intersectional approach.
Halaqat (2024-2027) is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Goethe-Institut. It will run for 32 months until spring 2027 with activities in Belgium, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Morocco. In this second phase, it expands its geographical scope and takes a cross-regional and intra-regional approach, fostering South-South exchange. It also focuses on the notion of locality and the importance of bringing forward the role of art in local communities. The objective is to strengthen artistic voices by supporting co-creation through different grants, residencies, public events, and capacity-building initiatives like workshops and mentorship programmes.

Host seminars, meetings, and public discussions at Bozar, providing a neutral, open, and well‑resourced environment for dialogue and collaboration between artists, activists, researchers, and civil society from both shores of the Mediterranean.

Leverage our extensive European and international connections to expand the reach of the Anna Lindh Foundation, linking its activities with Bozar’s audience and institutional partners across Belgium and Europe.

Encourage participation from diverse communities, aligning with Bozar’s mission to make culture accessible and representative of Belgium’s diverse heritage and evolving identity.
