Project Root Support (PRS) is a nonprofit organization providing mental health support to humanitarians across Europe. PRS is currently run entirely by volunteers, including the CEO, with four contracted therapists delivering services. The organization has limited funding, with an estimated annual budget target of €120,000, based on pending grant applications and expected income. PRS sustains itself through a tiered fee structure for partner organizations and seeks additional support through grants and donations. Its activities include one-on-one mental health support, critical care counselling for volunteers, dissemination of mental health resources, mutual support workshops, and training programs designed to foster resilience and well-being in teams working across culturally diverse environments. PRS is partnered with Indigo Volunteers, with whom it primarily disseminates tailored mental health resources for humanitarians.
Mission and Objectives
PRS' mission is to provide sustainable mental health support through long-term tailored interventions for humanitarians to prevent burnout, enhance coping, and contribute to a stronger, more resilient humanitarian sector founded on wellbeing and care, in which supporters can work in a fulfilled way with longevity. The organisation aims to foster a culture of care within humanitarian organisations in which every individual has access to consistent and tailored mental health support; burnout is the exception, and longevity is the norm.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
PRS can contribute to the Network in Luxembourg by raising awareness of mental health in the humanitarian and volunteer sectors. Given the pressures faced by humanitarian workers, PRS offers workshops and training programs that emphasize the importance of mental well-being for sustainable, resilient teams. This contribution will help local organizations integrate mental health practices into their operations, ensuring that workers are better equipped to handle the challenges they face.
Additionally, PRS can foster intercultural dialogue by supporting international humanitarians working in Luxembourg or collaborating with local organizations. Our services encourage collaboration between individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, enhancing understanding and mutual support within the community. Through this, we can contribute to the broader objective of social cohesion, particularly in a multicultural society like Luxembourg.
By strengthening Luxembourg's role in regional humanitarian efforts, PRS can ensure that local organizations working across borders are psychologically prepared to manage their responsibilities. This not only supports the humanitarian sector but also contributes to the community development efforts in Luxembourg itself.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
Project Root Support (PRS) wants to join the Ana Lindh Foundation Network to amplify our impact and contribute to the wider goals of intercultural dialogue, social cohesion, and community development. By connecting with other organizations across Europe and the Mediterranean, we aim to share best practices, exchange knowledge, and learn from the diverse perspectives within the network. As a nonprofit working with humanitarians, we recognize the importance of creating resilient, culturally aware communities, and the ALF Network provides an invaluable opportunity to build partnerships with like-minded organizations.
Joining the network will also enhance our ability to advocate for mental health support within intercultural and humanitarian contexts, which is essential for ensuring the well-being of workers who are often on the frontlines of social change. By collaborating with the ALF, PRS can contribute to creating stronger, healthier communities that promote social justice and inclusivity across borders.
