Prosxima Dance Company is a non profit organization that was founded in 1996 and it is based on the ideal of utilizing the dance medium to foster communication within the wider community. The productions of the company vary in context, structure and choreographic style and they have been presented in different performing platforms such as museums, theatre stages, industrial and open spaces and have toured nationally and internationally. In the recent years it has presented works commissioned by the Athens Epidaurus Festival, Onassis Cultural Centre, the Ephorate of Antiquities of West Attica, Piraeus and Islands, the International Contemporary Dance Festival of Algiers.
Mission and Objectives
Prosxima Dance Company and choreographer M. Koliopoulou are active in the field of performing arts with vulnerable social groups, presenting accessible works in Greece through their long-term collaboration with the Onassis Stegi and the Unlimited Access, iDance: Dance without discrimination and Europe Beyond Access Programme for a series of workshops for people with and without disabilities as well as the choreographic work ‘The Flight’ presented during the international Unlimited Festival 2015. Prosxima Dance Company has inclusive works commissioned for the Athens Festival such as ‘Clear Midnight’ for a mixed group of dancers with and without disabilities (2021), as well as internationally: The choreographic work’ Dancing (fancy)’ was created with the support of NRW KULTURsekretariat, ROOTS & ROUTES and Goethe Institute for the program ‘Culture Moves Europe’ (2023), The work Made for the dancer with disability Madeleine Månsson started with the support of the Swedish International Dance Programme (2021) and the work Here and Where? Following an invitation from the inclusive dance company Stopgap dance company (2019) in England. With a mission of creating spaces of togetherness through the arts, Prosxima Dance Company will be leading a series of inclusive workshops supported by the Bodossaki Foundation and the Points of Support Programme 2024-2025 for the Social Integration of People with Disabilities. The workshops will be taking place in two major universities; the University of Patras and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Main Projects / Activities
Maria Koliopoulou is an awarded artist of the Dance Research NRW, a scholarship of the NRW KULTURsekretariat. She has been awarded the Jarmila Jeřábková award (2008) at the New Europe Festival in Prague and the 2nd Prize at the International Contemporary Dance Festival of Algiers (2013) in Algiers. In recent years she has presented works commissioned by the: Onassis Stegi, Athens Festival, Ephorate of Greek Antiquities, International Contemporary Dance Festival of Algiers, Stopgap Dance Company and Editta Brown Company.
