Rook and book Chess Club (RBCC) is a sports club that uses chess as an intellectual sport to bring together people who are interested in chess from different regions, ages, genders and cultures.
Founded in 2020 in Kasarnaba, Baalback, and officially registered in January 2025 at the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) – Lebanon under the name “نادي القلعة والكتاب”.
Mission and Objectives
RBCC is a grassroots sports and civic initiative that uses chess – the intellectual sport - as a tool for inclusion, education, and peacebuilding. We engage individuals of all ages, cultural backgrounds and regions – including refugees and marginalized communities - by providing a safe and welcoming chess environment.
Main Projects / Activities
Over the past five years, RBCC has trained more than 20 new players, engaged more than 30 individuals in our community, and built partnerships with local entities / CSOs such as Majles Baalback Al Thakafi, Labweh Scouts, and UnAntonine Zahle. it has implemented projects in collaboration with INGOs and national NGOs in additional to self-funded initiatives. These initiatives integrate chess with social impact themes, such as gender equality, environmental awareness, and conflict resolution.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
- Youth engagement and education: integrating chess programs into schools, community centers, and TVET initiatives to strengthen cognitive skills, discipline, and teamwork.
- Community outreach: using RBCC’s network of clubs, municipalities, and NGOs to disseminate the Network’s opportunities and involve new partners
