General Information

The union of civil associations “Rural Development Network of North Macedonia – “RDN of NM” is an umbrella organization that currently allies 85 citizen organizations, members, dealing in the area of rural development. Currently, RDN of NM has 7 imployees.
- Budgetary resources available in a year from various donors is approximately 200,000 EUR.
- The sources of funding are mainly international donors including: EU, USAID, and GIZ.
- RDN of NM works on various projects at national and regional level in the WB countries.
- Main RDN partners: SWG, rural development networks from the WB countries, ELARD, PREPARE, LAGs

Mission and Objectives

Mission
Improvement of the livelihood in the rural areas of North Macedonia through building the capacities of the rural society, by networking
The objective of the RDN of NM is to demonstrate a structured approach to the mobilization of rural communities, so that they become stronger advocates of local development and participate in rural policy at the local, regional, national and EU level. This includes establishing effective cooperation and mutual assistance between individuals and organizations in rural areas, with the aim of ensuring effective representation of the needs, voice and interests of the rural population, as well as ensuring the flow of information between governmental and non-governmental bodies at all levels.

Main Projects / Activities

RDN defined its work on four main themes, each focusing on specific sub-topics, previously defined by the members and the leadership of the RDN:

- Rural tourism and cultural heritage
2. Green rural economy
- Environment and efficient management of natural resources
- Adaptation and mitigation of climate change
3. Social inclusion
- Gender equality and empowerment of the rural woman

4. LEADER / CLLD approach
Projects implemented by RDN of NM include:
- ALTER - Active Local Territories for Economic development of Rural Areas, financed by EU
- USAID financed project "Adaptation to Climate Change in Agriculture"
- Simulation of LEADER Approach in Southeast and East planning regions of Macedonia, financed by USAID
- National Rural Parliament as a voice of rural citizens, financed by EU
- Rural youth assisting Macedonia in EU integration, financed by EU
- NAGE- Networking and Advocacy for Green Economy, financed by EU
- Building the capacity to respond to climate change in the agricultural sector, supported by FAO
- Building the capacity to respond to climate change in the agricultural sector, Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme
- Community Development Program (CDP), financed by USAID
- Farm to Fork Academy for Green Western Balkans – Our shared European future, financed by EU

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

RDN of NM, as a national network representing more than 80 grassroot CSOs in the Republic of North Macedonia, can significantly contribute to the work of the Anna Lindh Foundation in our country across its three pillars of intercultural action including: empowering young voices; influencing policy makers and leading a movement. The priorities of the foundation coincide significantly with the objectives of the RDN that are focused on advocacy for the needs and interests of the rural communities; influencing the decision makers for the benefit of the rural areas; Networking and establishing cooperation for exchange of knowledge and good practices; capacity building of the civil society organizations.
The member organizations of the RDN are spread on the whole territory of North Macedonia and are dealing with various issues, starting from agriculture as a backbone of the rural areas, forestry, women economic empowerment, environment, cultural heritage and diversification in rural areas. They develop local action plans and take on increasingly complex task. The RDN has on disposal in-house resources and human capacities that can respond to the needs of its members, on different levels. Through engaging in the work of the Network in our country, RDN of NM can provide input about the rural development processes at national level and provide opportunities to different stakeholders for cooperation and exchange of knowledge with other stakeholders from the Foundation member countries.
