General Information

Named for the playwright, trade unionist and anti-sectarian activist Sam Thompson (1916 – 1965), the society is an independent, non-profit development and training organisation that is dedicated to reducing sectarianism and using a human rights and equality framework to build a peaceful and prosperous Northern Ireland. The Sam Thompson Society is uniquely placed to bring together a broad range of individuals from differing backgrounds and to forge relationships across communities and sectors. The society takes no position on the constitutional position of Northern Ireland and seeks peaceful means to overcome conflict.

Mission and Objectives

The mission of the Sam Thompson Society is to promote the emergence of progressive peaceful Northern Ireland and by using a human rights and equality framework to challenge sectarianism and racism.

Main Projects / Activities

The Sam Thompson Society offer a variety of training and support for young community activists to build a shared and peaceful Northern Ireland. The projects are co-developed with the participants and provide knowledge, experience and skills in community development and progressive political campaigning.
