Selfhood Nonprofit Ltd. is a Hungarian non-profit organisation founded in 2001, working at the intersection of adult learning, community development, rural innovation, and social inclusion. With extensive experience in training, advisory services, capacity building, and international cooperation, the organisation supports young people, adults, educators, and local communities through participatory and practice-oriented initiatives. Its work brings together educational expertise, community engagement, and innovative approaches to sustainable development, with particular attention to youth participation, rural transformation, digitalisation, and intercultural dialogue.
Mission and Objectives
Selfhood Nonprofit Ltd. is dedicated to advancing inclusive, resilient, and future-oriented communities through education, dialogue, and socially grounded innovation. Our mission is to create meaningful learning and cooperation opportunities that strengthen individual capacities, civic responsibility, and collective agency in response to contemporary social, educational, and rural challenges. We believe that mutual understanding, intercultural dialogue, and active participation are essential foundations of peaceful, democratic, and cohesive societies.
Our objectives are to promote adult learning, youth engagement, rural development, and intercultural cooperation through participatory, practice-based, and community-responsive approaches. We place particular emphasis on capacity building, advisory support, curriculum development, and the transfer of knowledge between academic, professional, and local community settings. This work is reinforced by strong expertise in adult education, agricultural advisory methodology, training design, and international project cooperation, allowing us to combine scholarly rigour with practical relevance and long-term social impact.
We are committed to fostering collaboration among civil society organisations, educational institutions, public actors, and international partners in order to support dialogue, social cohesion, and sustainable community development. Our long-term aim is to contribute to communities in which diversity is recognised as a resource, participation is meaningful, and learning serves both personal development and the common good.
Main Projects / Activities
Selfhood Nonprofit Ltd. has been active since 2001 in adult learning, rural development, youth participation, and community-based capacity building, with experience from more than 80 national and international projects. Its activities include training, counselling, workshops, competence development, and partnership-based cooperation, especially in the fields of education, agriculture, digitalisation, and social inclusion. Key projects include BULLY-OFF (2023), an Erasmus+ youth mobility project addressing cyberbullying, online harassment, hate speech, and discrimination through non-formal learning; SEEDS (2022–2025), supporting young female entrepreneurship and regenerative agriculture in the Southern Mediterranean region; and YFarmers (2017–2019), promoting innovative non-formal learning in organic farming, sustainability, and youth inclusion. Selfhood is also involved in MALTESE – Malta Agro-Leadership & Tech Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Empowerment, developed within the PoliRuralPlus Malta pilot. In this project, the organisation contributes its expertise in rural youth engagement, digital skills training, participatory methods, and community-based capacity building, supporting digital transformation, agri-entrepreneurship, and rural-urban cooperation in Malta.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
Selfhood Nonprofit Ltd. can contribute to the Network in Hungary through a strong combination of organisational experience, academic expertise, and community-based practice. The organisation has long-standing experience in adult learning, youth participation, rural development, and capacity building, while also being connected to higher education, advisory services, and international cooperation.
Through our work, we can support the Network by organising workshops, dialogue events, training programmes, and collaborative learning activities that involve civil society actors, educators, youth groups, local communities, and professional stakeholders. Our contribution is strengthened by expertise in adult education, advisory methodologies, communication, participatory learning, and competence development, as well as by direct experience in Erasmus+ and other international projects related to inclusion, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation.
We are also in a strong position to connect the Network with universities, training institutions, rural actors, and professional communities in Hungary, helping to transfer knowledge between international cooperation projects and local practice. Through project results, tested educational methods, mentoring approaches, and stakeholder engagement models, we can contribute to intercultural dialogue, civic participation, and inclusive community development in a practical and sustainable way.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
Selfhood Nonprofit Ltd. would like to join the Anna Lindh Foundation Network because its mission is closely aligned with our work in adult learning, youth participation, community development, and inclusive social innovation. We see the Network as a valuable platform for intercultural dialogue, mutual learning, and long-term cooperation across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Joining ALF would be a natural continuation of our existing international partnerships. Since 2018, we have been cooperating with PAMEA in several initiatives, which has strengthened our experience in transnational collaboration, non-formal learning, and intercultural partnership building. Through projects such as BULLY-OFF, SEEDS, YFarmers, and MALTESE, we have developed practical expertise in youth engagement, digital inclusion, women’s empowerment, sustainability, and participatory community development.
We would like to join the Network not only to learn from others, but also to contribute our experience, methods, and community-based approach to initiatives that strengthen dialogue, resilience, and social cohesion.
