General Information

Shemool for Development Association (SFD) is a non-governmental organization based in Giza, Egypt, committed to empowering youth, fostering social inclusion, and enhancing the quality of life for individuals with fewer opportunities and disabilities. The organization envisions an inclusive society where young people, particularly those facing challenges due to disabilities or social barriers, are respected, empowered, and actively engaged in all aspects of life. SFD's mission is to equip young people with the necessary skills, knowledge, and opportunities to improve both their personal and professional growth. The organization actively promotes youth participation, intercultural dialogue, and civic engagement through non-formal education, sports, and capacity-building programs. A major focus of SFD is advocating for equal rights and social inclusion, with a strong emphasis on disability empowerment through sports, exemplified by its flagship initiative, the Sevens CP Football Team. A key component of SFD’s work is raising awareness about the challenges faced by marginalized communities while building partnerships with government agencies, youth organizations, and international networks. By integrating Erasmus+ projects, European Solidarity Corps (ESC) programs, and nationally recognized sports initiatives, SFD aims to create sustainable impact and long-term social development. At SFD, we passionately believe in a future where diversity is celebrated, and the potential of every individual is encouraged and guided to drive positive change and evolution within our society.

Main Projects / Activities

SFD has extensive experience in non-formal education, intercultural learning, and international cooperation, actively engaging in Erasmus+ and ESC programs. The organization has implemented various youth exchanges, training courses, and inclusion initiatives, all aimed at enhancing youth leadership, skills development, and civic engagement. One of its most notable projects is Sevens CP Football Team, which was established in 2018 as the first football team in Egypt for individuals with Cerebral Palsy. Sevens is more than just a sports team; it serves as a platform for empowerment, community engagement, and social change. Through weekly training sessions, national tournaments, and advocacy campaigns, the initiative promotes self-confidence, teamwork, and community integration for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, Sevens runs awareness campaigns to educate families and communities about the importance of adaptive sports for people with disabilities and the role of physical activity in improving well-being. Beyond sports, SFD is involved in youth entrepreneurship and digital skills development, providing young people with marketable skills to help them enter the labor force. The organization also engages in volunteering and civic engagement initiatives, ensuring meaningful experiences for both local and international volunteers through structured mentorship and guidance. Through its partnerships across Europe and the Mediterranean, SFD actively participates in projects focused on climate change, disability rights, youth leadership, and social responsibility. By combining sports, education, and inclusion, SFD ensures that all young people, regardless of background or ability, have equal access to opportunities for growth and engagement.

SFD has a diverse and experienced team of youth leaders, project managers, trainers, and inclusion advocates, each bringing specialized expertise in international project management, non-formal education, and youth development. The board members and leadership team are experts in youth mobility programs, sports for inclusion, and EU project management, with a strong background in international collaboration, intercultural dialogue, and social impact initiatives. The leadership of the Sevens CP Football Team consists of trained coaches and facilitators specializing in adaptive sports for individuals with disabilities. These professionals have extensive experience in mentorship, inclusion methodologies, and awareness-building, ensuring that the sports activities serve as a pathway for empowerment and integration. SFD's youth trainers and volunteers are skilled in non-formal education techniques, including interactive learning, role-playing, and project-based approaches. Many of them have been actively involved in youth facilitation, project implementation, and intercultural learning within the Erasmus+ framework. Together, the SFD team ensures that all programs are inclusive, impactful, and aligned with long-term strategies for youth empowerment and social change. Through their expertise, they provide tailored mentorship, hands-on training, and structured project management, allowing young people to develop leadership skills, confidence, and a sense of community.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Shemool for Development (SFD) can contribute to the Anna Lindh Foundation Egyptian National Network through its extensive expertise in youth empowerment, social inclusion, and disability advocacy. SFD’s flagship initiative, the Sevens CP Football Team, demonstrates its commitment to fostering inclusion through adaptive sports, which could inspire collaborative projects within the network. The organization’s experience in Erasmus+ programs, non-formal education, and intercultural learning aligns with ALF’s goals of promoting dialogue and cooperation. SFD can organize joint workshops, youth exchanges, or awareness campaigns focused on disability rights, intercultural dialogue, and civic engagement. Additionally, SFD’s partnerships with government agencies, international networks, and grassroots organizations can facilitate resource-sharing and amplify the network’s impact in marginalized communities.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

SFD seeks to join the ALF Network to strengthen its mission of creating an inclusive society by leveraging regional collaboration. The network’s focus on intercultural dialogue and Euro-Mediterranean cooperation complements SFD’s work in youth development and social inclusion. By joining, SFD aims to expand its partnerships, access funding opportunities, and share best practices with like-minded organizations. Participation in the ALF Network would enhance SFD’s capacity to advocate for disability rights and youth empowerment at a broader scale, while also integrating its successful initiatives—such as the Sevens CP Football Team and Erasmus+ projects—into a regional framework. This alignment will amplify SFD’s impact and foster sustainable social change across the Mediterranean region.
