General Information

Slow Media Albania (SMA) aims to create a pioneering model of slow journalism in Albania and the Western Balkans region, promoting ethical reporting, investigative journalism and media education. SMA will focus on critical issues such as corruption, disinformation and fact-checking, as well as the need for legal and physical protection for journalists.

Mission and Objectives

MISSION

Our mission is to empower citizens through transparent and credible journalism that is free from external influences, promoting media education and engagement within our communities. We strive to provide journalists with a safe and independent platform, protected by strong legal frameworks, to report the truth with courage.

VISION

Our vision is to create a media environment in Albania where journalism is a pillar of democracy, characterized by transparency, integrity and respect for the truth. Our vision is for a society where citizens are equipped with every tool to distinguish fact from fiction, thereby actively engaging and holding their leaders accountable.

Values

Truthfulness: Prioritizing the accurate presentation of facts.
Integrity: Commitment to ethical practices and standards in reporting.
Accountability: Holding public officials and government institutions accountable for their actions, promoting transparency.
Independence and safety: Providing journalists with a safe platform to report the truth without fear of retribution or intimidation.
Diversity: Recognizing and representing diverse voices and perspectives to reflect the diversity of society.

Main Projects / Activities

Slow Media Albania focuses on slow, in-depth journalism and media education and the intersection of media and technology. Its main activities include the production of long-form investigative articles on issues such as media freedom, disinformation, digital surveillance corruption, and journalists’ safety, prioritizing accuracy, ethics, and context over speed. The organization also develops media literacy and capacity-building initiatives, creating educational content on journalistic ethics, professional standards, and citizens’ ability to critically assess information.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Slow Media Albania can contribute to the Network by connecting journalism, technology, and civil society in Albania. Alongside journalists, the organisation works with cybersecurity experts and software developers, allowing it to bring practical knowledge on digital risks, online safety, and the technological systems that affect media and public information.
Through this multidisciplinary approach, Slow Media Albania can support the Network by sharing expertise on digital security, disinformation, and technology-driven investigations, helping disseminate Network activities nationally, and contributing to joint projects, discussions, and capacity-building initiatives that strengthen safe, ethical, and technology-aware journalism.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

Slow Media Albania wants to join the ALF Network to connect with civil society organisations across the Euro-Mediterranean region and exchange knowledge on media freedom, media literacy, and the role of technology in shaping public debate. Albania’s media environment faces growing challenges related to disinformation, digitalisation, and pressure on independent journalism, and the Network offers a valuable space to learn from shared regional experiences.
By joining the ALF Network, Slow Media Albania aims to contribute its expertise in slow journalism, investigative reporting, and media-tech projects, while also strengthening its capacity through collaboration, joint initiatives, and cross-border dialogue that promote democratic values, cultural understanding, and informed civic participation.
