Somali Formal Education Network (SOFEN) is a non-governmental organization focused on improving education access, community empowerment, youth development, and social welfare for vulnerable populations. Through our European liaison presence in Germany, we bridge local community initiatives with international partnerships, fostering social inclusion and intercultural dialogue.
Mission and Objectives
Mission: To empower communities through quality formal education, skill-building, and social inclusion initiatives for marginalized groups.
Expand access to inclusive educational and training opportunities.
Promote community development and youth empowerment programs.
Foster intercultural cooperation and international dialogue between European civil society and African/Somali educational initiatives.
Main Projects / Activities
Community Education Programs: Providing accessible learning resources, literacy, and foundational skill workshops for youth and vulnerable groups.
Youth & Women Empowerment: Hosting skill-building and capacity development training sessions.
Diaspora & International Outreach: Connecting diaspora professionals in Europe (specifically Germany) with local development initiatives to support education and cross-cultural exchange.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
As a civil society representative based in Germany, SOFEN contributes to the German national network by offering unique perspectives on diaspora integration, cross-continental educational partnerships, and intercultural bridge-building. We can actively participate in network meetings, co-organize intercultural events, and collaborate on Euro-Mediterranean education initiatives.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
We wish to join the Anna Lindh Foundation Network to collaborate with Euro-Mediterranean civil society organizations, exchange best practices in education and community development, and enhance SOFEN's international visibility. Being part of the ALF German network allows us to build meaningful partnerships and promote intercultural dialogue between Europe and East Africa.
