Spirit of the Galilee (SOG), a nonprofit organization offering a prophetic voice for peace from the Galilee, and working to strengthen Israel’s shared society through interfaith leadership, cultural exchange, and educational initiatives.
Why the Galilee?
The Galilee is a unique region in Israel—and in the Middle East. It is a rare mosaic of communities and traditions: Jews, Christians, Muslims, Druze, Baha’is, and many other streams and denominations live side by side in close geographic proximity. Yet despite this diversity, many people have never had a meaningful encounter with another community’s culture, language, or faith.
We believe the Galilee can become a beacon of partnership and shared society—if leaders and communities are given the space and tools to meet, learn, and build trust.
Mission and Objectives
SOG aims to deepen ties, connections and cooperation between communities and shared cities and areas. We believe that this work brings down barriers and diffuses tensions, enabling communities to work together to launch joint projects and activism for a better society. Culture, tradition and spiritual work, connection to the land and nature all foster the relationships and values that help build a better Israeli society in the Galilee and beyond.
Main Projects / Activities
Spirit of the Galilee’s solution is to train and bring together faith leaders, cultural ambassadors, musicians, and educators to study together and influence their communities—modeling peacemaking partnerships grounded in respect and dignity.
We work to create positive cultural moments and a new shared language of connection—demonstrating that religion and faith can be a powerful force for peace.
What We Do
Our current programs include:
Interfaith Leadership Group – A monthly cohort of over 30 religious leaders (men and women) from diverse traditions who study together, build relationships, and promote dialogue from a faith-based perspective. They are all leaders in their respective communities and work tirelessly to promote peace and tolerance.
Cultural Events for the Public – Musical interfaith gatherings that bring Jewish and Arab audiences together and spread a language of love and respect through shared cultural experiences.
Education & Community Engagement – Meetings with groups of all ages to teach that religion can be a voice of peace, including creating prayers and poems together—offering a much-needed spiritual and moral voice in a broken world.
Initiatives of Hope- programs dedicated to raising the voices of women leadership in mixed cities in Israel, Jews and Arabs.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
We have a lot of experience bringing communities together and creating a religious language for peace and reconciliation and respect. We have a network of leaders- faith, culture and religious leaders who represent communities and larger groups. We also work throughout the Galilee and are mobile.
