Splinter operates with semi-autonomous workgroups focusing on different areas: 1. Curatorial group: Focuses on visual arts. 2. Audiovisual workgroup: Runs a cineclub presenting both local and international filmmakers. 3. Communication and publicity group: Manages Splinter’s online and offline presence. 4. Theater and performance group: Develops expertise in performance arts. Each group operates semi-independently, suggesting a flexible team structure with a variety of partners and collaborators in the artistic sector. As a nonprofit supporting a variety of artistic productions, it likely relies on grants, partnerships, and external funding sources. Potential funding sources - Grants and subsidies from government cultural bodies and institutions. - Co-productions with like-minded organizations. - Partnerships with local and international artists and institutions. - Splinter supports artistic productions from conceptualization to final product, experimenting with space, exhibition, and location to initiate public dialogue. - Exchanges: - International cultural exchange is a core mission, linking artists with local spaces and vice versa. - Seminars/Workshops: - Splinter’s multi-disciplinary approach involves organizing activities like cineclub screenings, curatorial exhibitions, and performances. - Splinter works with an extensive network in Ghent’s cultural sector and seeks partnerships with established organizations and institutions, particularly those aligned with its mission of inclusivity, participation, and cultural exchange.Mission and Objectives
Splinter aims to be the link between artists and spaces, as we support artistic productions and help with the entire process from the starting idea until the end product. We can build on an extensive network in the broad cultural sector of Ghent. We don’t limit ourselves to one discipline or medium. We are working in the broad artistic field and divide ourselves in different semi-autonomous workgroups. At the moment we have a curatorial group that focuses on visual arts, an audiovisual workgroup with a cineclub that presents filmmakers: both local and international. The communication and publicity group focuses on the online and offline presence of Splinter and its productions. The final group is built around theater and performance so that the organization can develop expertise in these various fields. Our goal is to set up co-productions with like minded established organizations and institutions. To reach specific audiences and actively work around participation and inclusion. Splinter wants to lower the threshold between the public and the artist by experimenting with space and exhibition, with performance and location, with the aim of initiating a dialogue and prove that we are essential, filling the gap that we believe limits artists and their productions. We strongly believe in cultural exchange and an important aim of Splinter is linking international artists to spaces and local projects and vice versa.Main Projects / Activities
