SpotCast is an independent community media platform founded in 2022 in Akkar, northern Lebanon. Operating as a registered LLC, SpotCast produces daily multimedia journalism across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and podcast platforms, reaching over 2.9 million views in a single ten-month period. The platform is led by a core team of three and supported by 22 trained volunteer journalists, all from the Akkar region.
Mission and Objectives
SpotCast's mission is to amplify the voices of marginalized communities in Akkar — a region of over 300,000 people with minimal mainstream media representation — through community-centered, independent journalism. Our objectives are to produce accurate, solution-oriented reporting on social, environmental, civic, and cultural issues; to train young journalists and content creators from underserved communities; and to build a sustainable independent media model rooted in the region it serves.
Main Projects / Activities
potCast produces daily video reports, investigative articles, and social media content covering governance, civic participation, environmental issues, and cultural heritage in Akkar. Key productions include the documentary "Basira" (2024), winner of the UNESCO Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage Impact Story Competition, and the documentary "Iman" (2023), produced in partnership with Internews. SpotCast also launched "Haki Intikhabat," a five-episode podcast series on electoral awareness and democratic participation, and has delivered two journalism training programs for young volunteers in the region. The platform operates a community production studio in Braqayel, Akkar, open to local journalists and civil society organizations.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
SpotCast can contribute to the ALF Network in Lebanon by serving as a media production and dissemination partner for intercultural and civic dialogue initiatives. With an established audience of over 390,000 unique accounts reached on Instagram alone and strong credibility among youth in northern Lebanon, SpotCast can amplify Network activities, produce multilingual content, and connect ALF programming to communities that are typically absent from national and regional media conversations.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
SpotCast seeks to join the ALF Network to connect our community journalism work in Akkar to the broader Euro-Mediterranean dialogue on civic participation, intercultural understanding, and youth empowerment. Membership would provide access to a regional network of civil society organizations whose values align with our own, open pathways for collaborative projects across both shores of the Mediterranean, and strengthen our institutional standing as an independent media platform committed to the principles of dialogue, inclusion, and democratic participation.
