Mediterraneo Stichting is a non-profit ANBI organization based in Amsterdam that promotes Mediterranean musical traditions in the Dutch cultural landscape through concerts, educational projects, and collaborations. The organization develops new work and opportunities for musicians while connecting Arab, Greek, and Turkish traditions with contemporary audiences.
Mediterraneo band works with partners and supporters including: Fonds podium kunsten 2022, AFK Amsterdam fonds voor de kunst (2022 to 2026), Norma fonds (2023,2024), Fonds 21(2026), and Het Cultuurfonds (2026)
Mission and Objectives
Vision:
Mediterraneo Stichting aims to introduce and integrate authentic classical world music—rooted in Arab, Greek, and Turkish traditions—into the Dutch cultural landscape. We believe music knows no borders, and by bringing together diverse musical traditions and styles, we enrich Dutch culture. Our unique approach, blending Eastern modalities with Western classical and contemporary influences, inspires new audiences and fosters mutual understanding between cultures.
Mission:
1- To create new work and development opportunities for musicians active in world music in the Netherlands.
2- To organize events, educational projects, and festivals that bring together artists and audiences from diverse cultural backgrounds, facilitating dialogue and exchange between new Dutch residents and local communities.
3- Through collaboration and experimentation with various styles and creative visions, we build bridges while preserving the authentic spirit of Makam music, Rebetiko, classical Ottoman traditions, and more—all presented in a contemporary and inclusive context.
4- Committed to spreading positivity, promoting peace, and showcasing the richness of the Mediterranean region in the Netherlands through our activities.
Main Projects / Activities
Our project line, Modal music (2021/2022) Istanbul Midnight (2022/2023), Music in motion (2023), From Istanbul to Athens(2023/2024)), From Istanbul To Cairo(2024/2025)), and From Istanbu To Marrakech(2026). These productions combine makam-based music, Ottoman classical repertoire, Rebetiko, Andalusian, and Arabic classical music traditions in an inclusive, cross-cultural format.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
We can contribute by sharing our experience in the Dutch cultural sector and by helping create meaningful connections between ALF members and local venues, artists, and organizations. We have strong knowledge of the music and cultural landscape in the Netherlands, including logistics, partnerships, and event production. This can be useful for future ALF activities in the Netherlands
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
We want to join the ALF Network to expand our band’s international connections and engage with a wider Euro-Mediterranean cultural community. Our members reflect the Mediterranean region itself, with artists from Netherlands, Turkey, Syria, Morocco, Greece, Germany, and Bulgaria, and I believe this is the right moment to extend our activities beyond the Netherlands. Through ALF, we hope to connect with partners who share our commitment to intercultural dialogue, artistic collaboration, and cultural exchange.
