General Information

We are a Dutch foundation located in Haarlem. Funded by the founders and donations from the hikers and cyclists community. No paid employees, all work is done by volunteers. Yearly budget is normally less than 10.000 Euros.

Mission and Objectives

Creating hiking and cycling routes from Istanbul, Turkiye to Mecca, Saudi Arabia and from Balkh, Afghanistan to Konya in Turkiye. We belive that slow tourism can contribute understandings of each others cultural and can contribute to reconciliation and peace processes.
Therefore, we create signposted and marked routes on which travelers can move without safety issues.
We also encourrages students to research on the fields of slow tourism, pilgrimage and effects of religious tourism. In the Netherlands we aim on interreligious dialogue through hiking activities.

Main Projects / Activities

Our main projects are:
www.sufitrail.com hiking and cycling route from Istanbul to Konya

Part in Turkiye is developed. Part in Syria not developed. Part in Jordan work in progress. Part in Saudi Arabia not developed.
www.rumitrail.com Cycling route from Balkh, Afghanistan via Iran, Irak, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Palestina, Syria to Konya in Turkiye. Only Turkish part is yet developed.
www.driebronnenpelgrimsroute.nl This is a circular pilgrimage in the Netherlands in and around Heiloo.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We have a netwotk of active hikers and cyclists who are more than others individuals interested in international matters, human rights issues, climate etc. It might help the ALF network to be more visible.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We like to be part of an international organization in order to be connected to organizations within the countries we are operating or wanted to operate in the future.
