General Information

The Interreligious Council of Swedish consist of 11 members, partly of individual faith communities and partly of larger umbrella organizations for the faith communities.

The Council meets regularly for council meetings to build relationships, deepen knowledge, and strengthen interreligious cooperation. The decisions made at the council meetings by consensus serve as guidance for the work of the board.

We work strategically and with a long-term perspective on dialogue with each other, with civil society, authorities, and politicians. Our goal is to be a coordinating link between local interreligious councils and initiatives, and authorities in Sweden.

Members of the Council are: The Alevi Federation of Sweden, Hindu Forum Sweden, the Islamic Cooperation Council, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Jewish Central Council, the Mandaean Faith Community, the Community of Forn Sed, Sikhs in Sweden, the Swedish Bahá’í Community, the Swedish Buddhist Community, and the Christian Council of Sweden.

Mission and Objectives

As part of civil society, the Council seeks to be a societal actor contributing to development and a natural dialogue partner for public institutions, such as government agencies and the national government.

The Council’s work rests on democratic foundations and is based on the equal value of all people as well as each person’s right to freedom and a dignified life.

The Swedish Interreligious Council aims to:
- Promote and create conditions for interreligious dialogue and cooperation in Sweden
- Strengthen the role of faith communities in fostering peace and mutual understanding in society
- Be a voice in the public conversation on ethics and spirituality
- Serve as a united voice against all forms of racism, antisemitism, anti-Muslim racism, and hostility toward religion
