The Freedom Theatre is an independent Palestinian cultural organization based in Jenin Refugee Camp, Palestine. Established in 2006 and registered with the Palestinian Ministry of Interior, it provides artistic, cultural, and educational spaces for children, youth, and women. The theatre works through community engagement, performing arts training, and professional cultural production, and continues to operate as a platform for creativity, resilience, and international cultural exchange despite the difficult conditions in Jenin.
Mission and Objectives
Our mission is to empower children, youth, and women through art and culture by creating inclusive spaces for expression, learning, and critical thinking. We aim to strengthen community resilience, nurture identity and creativity, and encourage social engagement through theatre, visual arts, and cultural education. The Freedom Theatre sees art as a tool for dialogue, dignity, and meaningful social change.
Main Projects / Activities
The Freedom Theatre works through three main pillars: community cultural programming, The Freedom Theatre Academy for Performing Arts, and professional artistic production. Its activities include theatre productions and tours, drama and acting training, youth and women’s empowerment initiatives, multimedia production such as photography, filmmaking and podcasts, and outreach projects in villages, camps, and marginalized communities. The theatre also develops socially engaged performances that reflect Palestinian lived reality and cultural resilience at both local and international levels.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
The Freedom Theatre can contribute to the ALF Palestine Network through its extensive experience in community-based arts, youth engagement, cultural dialogue, and international artistic collaboration. We can host and co-organize cultural activities, performances, workshops, exchanges, and public discussions that connect local communities with wider regional and international networks. We can also contribute knowledge and practice in using theatre and art as tools for dialogue, social participation, inclusion, and resilience in challenging contexts.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
We would like to join the ALF Network in order to strengthen cultural dialogue, build new partnerships, and connect our work in Jenin with other organizations across Palestine and the Euro-Mediterranean region. As a cultural institution working with children, youth, and women under conditions of displacement and occupation, we believe the network offers an important space for exchange, cooperation, visibility, and shared learning. Joining the network would support our mission of using art and culture to foster dignity, dialogue, creativity, and social engagement.
