General Information

TID Gjirokastra is a locally rooted cultural and tourism organization dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and international visibility of Gjirokastra’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Operating within a UNESCO World Heritage context, TID Gjirokastra focuses on traditional craftsmanship, gastronomy, music—particularly iso‑polyphony—and community‑based cultural practices. The organization actively develops and coordinates multidisciplinary cultural activities, exhibitions, and exchange projects that connect local heritage with international audiences. Through partnerships with artists, artisans, cultural practitioners, and institutions, TID Gjirokastra fosters intercultural dialogue and sustainable cultural tourism. Its work emphasizes authenticity, living heritage, and meaningful community engagement, positioning Gjirokastra as a dynamic cultural destination while strengthening cross‑border cooperation and cultural exchange initiatives.

Mission and Objectives

The mission of TID Gjirokastra is to create added value for its member businesses by delivering projects and services that are jointly agreed upon during consultative processes. The organization works to address shared priorities, strengthen cooperation among stakeholders, and support sustainable economic and cultural development within the TID zone, benefiting businesses, residents, and visitors alike.
TID Gjirokastra pursues the following core objectives:

To increase economic opportunities for local businesses.
To attract a higher number of local and international visitors.
To improve and maintain environmental and public‑space quality standards.
To address the concrete needs of different business sectors operating in the area.
To strengthen cooperation between businesses, local authorities, and the wider community.
To represent businesses through a strong, unified collective voice.
To promote the city of Gjirokastra at local, national, regional, and international levels through coordinated marketing efforts.
To collaborate with development and tourism associations to enhance awareness of the local tourism offer.
To support local volunteer initiatives aligned with the goals of TID Gjirokastra.

Main Projects / Activities

TID Gjirokastra has led and supported infrastructure improvements within the TID zone, including street lighting, greenery, public space maintenance, waste management, and pedestrian safety. These interventions have been carried out in cooperation with the Municipality of Gjirokastër and with the support of AADF, contributing to a visibly improved urban environment for businesses and visitors

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

TID Gjirokastra can contribute in Albania by actively promoting intercultural dialogue, community engagement, and cultural cooperation at local and national levels. Operating in a UNESCO World Heritage city, we bring strong experience in connecting cultural heritage with contemporary social dialogue through participatory events, artistic exchanges, and community‑based initiatives.
We can serve as a platform for cultural actors, youth, artisans, and small businesses to engage in dialogue on identity, coexistence, and shared Mediterranean values. Through cultural events, workshops, and cross‑border exchanges, TID Gjirokastra can amplify ALF’s mission by making intercultural dialogue accessible at grassroots level. Our capacity to mobilize local stakeholders and collaborate with public institutions allows us to contribute content, partnerships, and visibility to ALF activities across Albania.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We want to join the Anna Lindh Foundation Network to strengthen intercultural dialogue and connect our local experience with a wider Mediterranean platform. As an organization rooted in cultural heritage and community engagement, we believe ALF offers the right framework to exchange knowledge, build partnerships, and contribute locally to shared values of dialogue, cooperation, and cultural understanding.
