Main Projects / Activities

The main projects and activities of the Association of War Veterans of the 9th Guards Brigade “Wolves” – Pgž focus on preserving the values of the Homeland War, working with children and young people, supporting vulnerable groups in society, environmental protection, health, volunteering, sports and recreation, as well as developing intergenerational and international cooperation.
•“Clean Nature and the Underwater World – Together for a More Beautiful Croatia” – volunteer environmental clean-up actions involving natural areas, coastlines, the underwater environment, walking trails and lakes, with the participation of pupils, schools, citizens and volunteers. The activities also include educating children and young people about environmental protection, responsible behaviour towards nature and the importance of volunteering.
•“My Grandfather and Father in the Defence of Croatia in the Lika Region during the Homeland War” – a project intended for primary and secondary school students. Through essays, meetings with Croatian war veterans, field activities and visits to locations of importance to the Homeland War, young people are introduced to recent Croatian history and the contribution of Croatian war veterans to the creation of the Republic of Croatia.
•Work with vulnerable groups in society – one of the Association’s important areas of activity. Inclusive excursions, educational and recreational activities, as well as continuous learning support, are organised for children without adequate parental care. Children and young people from families of lower socioeconomic status are provided with tutoring and additional educational support in order to promote equal opportunities in education, reduce educational inequalities and help them achieve their full potential.
•Inclusive activities for children and young people – organising excursions, outdoor activities, visits to farms, parks and other educational and recreational facilities, especially for children who, due to family, social or financial circumstances, have fewer opportunities to participate in such activities.
•Learning assistance and educational support – continuous support for children without adequate parental care, as well as tutoring for children and young people from lower-income families. The aim is to ensure access to additional educational support regardless of a family’s financial circumstances and to contribute to equal educational opportunities.
•“Wolves Care for Health” and physiotherapy support – organising and providing physiotherapy services, individual treatments and medical massages for older people, Croatian war veterans and other users who require additional health support. The activities are aimed at maintaining mobility, reducing physical discomfort, preventing deterioration of health and improving quality of life.
•Therapeutic horseback riding – organising therapeutic horseback riding as a form of physical, psychological and social support for users. The activity contributes to the development of balance, coordination and mobility, while also helping to reduce stress, strengthen self-confidence, encourage social interaction and improve overall physical and psychological well-being. It is particularly valuable for Croatian war veterans, older people and other vulnerable groups for whom this type of activity can contribute to a better quality of life and greater inclusion in the community.
•Social and health empowerment of Croatian war veterans and members of their families – implementation of rehabilitation, health, recreational and social activities such as Emmett/Bowen treatments, therapeutic horseback riding, walks, educational activities, camps and social gatherings, with the aim of preserving physical and psychological health, reducing social isolation and improving users’ quality of life.
•Sports and recreational activities – organising swimming sessions at swimming pools, bocce and football tournaments, walking activities, excursions and other forms of recreation. The activities are open to different age groups and are aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle, social interaction and active participation in the community.
•Commemoration of anniversaries and preservation of the values of the Homeland War – organising and participating in commemorations of Operation Storm, Operation Medak Pocket, anniversaries of military units, memorial events and other commemorative activities, as well as paying tribute to Croatian war veterans who were killed or have passed away.
•Exhibitions, educational activities and public presentation of the Association’s work – organising exhibitions, public events, forums and project presentations, including the exhibition “Together for a More Beautiful and Cleaner Environment” held on Korzo in Rijeka.
•Volunteering and intergenerational cooperation – bringing together pupils, young people, university students, Croatian war veterans, older people and other citizens through joint environmental, humanitarian, educational and socially beneficial activities. Particular emphasis is placed on the transfer of experience between generations and on developing solidarity and responsibility towards the community.
•International cooperation and connecting Croatians living outside the Republic of Croatia – developing projects that connect young people of Croatian origin living abroad with Croatia through Croatian language, culture, history and Homeland War-related activities, meetings with Croatian war veterans and young people in Croatia, as well as collecting and preserving stories about the contribution of the Croatian diaspora.
•Humanitarian and socially beneficial activities – providing support to individuals and groups in disadvantaged circumstances, including children, young people, older people, Croatian war veterans and their families, as well as citizens living in rural and less accessible areas.
All of the Association’s activities are connected by a common goal: to provide practical support to people who need it, create equal opportunities, strengthen intergenerational solidarity, preserve health and quality of life, encourage citizens to participate in volunteering and socially beneficial activities, and preserve the values and memory of the Homeland War.
