United Nations Association Albania (UNAA) is a civil society organization, guided by the principles of peace, democracy and sustainable development. Established in 2016 as a grassroots movement of young people, UNAA began as a voluntary initiative focused on community building and capacity development. Since then, it has developed into a fully-fledged organization with internal capacities and expertise to design and implement initiatives that bring societal change. Its work is based on four thematic pillars: i. Peaceful and Democratic Societies, ii. Sustainable, Green and Digital Development, iii. Culture and Creativity, and iv. Public Diplomacy and Globalization.
Mission and Objectives
Vision: We aspire for a society guided by the principles of peace, democracy and sustainability.
Mission: UNAA works in partnerships to enhance informed policymaking, incentivize a participatory society and engaged youth, as well as advance Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.
Objectives: Youth Engagement, Empowerment and Participation:Research and Policy Influence:Climate Action and Education:Advancing Accessibility & Inclusion; support digital transition in the society.
Main Projects / Activities
UNAA has managed at least 18 projects on youth democratic participation and political representation, 2 projects on youth and sustainable development, 4 projects on culture and 1 project on climate education. UNAA has signed MoU with several Albanian institutions such as the Ministry of State for Youth and Children, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry for Economy, Culture and Innovation. UNAA cooperates closely with academia and high schools.
Some of UNAA’s partners and donors include European Endowment for Democracy, U.S Embassy in Albania, Swedish Institute, UN Office in Albania and other UN Agencies in Albania, Henrich Boll Stiftung, Netherland’s Embassy in Albania, British Council, and UNA Sweden.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
The United Nations Association of Albania can serve as a strong asset to the Anna Lindh Foundation Network by bringing its extensive experience in youth engagement, intercultural learning, and multilateral cooperation to strengthen dialogue within the Euro–Mediterranean community. Through its established partnerships with educational institutions, local authorities, and international organizations, UNA Albania can facilitate cross-sector collaboration and support joint projects that promote inclusion, diversity, and democratic participation. The organisation’s expertise in civic education, SDG-related training, and community outreach enables it to contribute meaningfully to capacity-building among network members, while its nationwide public events, debates, and Model UN programs can increase the visibility of the ALF mission and amplify intercultural dialogue in Albania.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
Joining the Anna Lindh Foundation Network enables an UN Association Abania (UNAA) to actively contribute to regional policy dialogue and influence narratives on intercultural relations across the Euro–Mediterranean area. ALF netowork offers strong networking and capacity-building opportunities through connections with organizations and experts across 42 countries, while facilitating collaboration on intercultural, peacebuilding, and social inclusion initiatives, which can match UNAAs ongoing programmatic work and the interest of the youth attached to it. The membership will also enhance the institutional visibility by providing access to high-level regional events, forums, and exchanges where UNAA can showcase its work, build partnerships, and strengthen its role in the broader Euro–Med civil-society landscape.
