Students' Union from Romania (UNI) is a student federation which is formed by over 100 student associations from 17 university centers.
The purpose of the federation is to represent, promote and defend common rights and
interests of all students in Romania and Romanian students abroad, regardless of race,
nationality, ethnic origin, language, religion, gender, opinion, political affiliation, wealth, or
social origin, in relation to national and local institutions in the field of education and youth.
UNI has currently 10 areas of interests: Education, Youth policies, Social dimension, youth emplyability, Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Inovation, Volunteering, Culture, University sport and Health education.
Education is at the core of the UNI's areas of interest, reflecting the federation's commitment to promoting equal access to quality education for all young people. In this area, the Students' Union from Romania works to ensure transparency and equality in evaluation systems, encourages the improvement of university study programs to meet the current needs of young people and to be in line with what is required on the labor market.
The university students are targeted for our activities and the group age we want to reach is 18-35.
Mission and Objectives
Purpose/Mission: The Romanian Students' Union represents, promotes and defends the common rights and interests of all students in Romania and Romanian students abroad, without distinction of race, nationality, ethnic origin, language, religion, sex, opinion, political affiliation, wealth or social origin, in relation to national and local institutions in the field of education and youth.
Objectives:
1 Stimulating, promoting and cultivating personal and institutional relationships with students, student associations and youth associations.
2 Supporting students for their rapid integration into social and professional life.
3 Initiating and maintaining relationships with national and international decision-making institutions in the field of interest for the members of the Union, with other national and international organizations, with governmental and non-governmental institutions.
4 Participation in local, national and international programs of interest in the educational and youth environment.
5 Initiating projects to promote university values and cultivate the spirit of lifelong learning.
6 Initiating specific actions to improve Romanian university education and align it with European and international norms.
7 Organizing conferences, symposia, colloquiums and seminars of a national and international nature.
8 In order to achieve its objectives, the U.S.R. may establish its own printing house, publishing houses, publications, radio and TV stations.
Main Projects / Activities
Since its establishment in 2001, the Union has developed annual projects with national impact, becoming key reference events for students.
The Romanian Students’ Congress (CSR), with a 17-year tradition, brings together students nationwide to contribute with concrete solutions for improving education and society. It facilitates dialogue with decision-makers, resulting in resolutions aligned with student needs. A major outcome was the Internship Law (2018). In 2023, CSR expanded to include students from the Republic of Moldova, and in 2025 gathered over 1,100 participants, alongside representatives from academia, public administration, and the private sector.
UNIFEST Festival has, for over 24 years, offered free access to cultural, educational, and sports activities, engaging over 20,000 students annually across 15 cities.
The Forum of Romanian Students Everywhere (FSRP) strengthens representation of students abroad, connecting them with Romanian institutions. It gathers participants from over 12 countries and generates significant civic and online engagement.
Summer Camp, the largest student project in Constanța County, promotes student values through free activities, reaching over 5,000 beneficiaries annually.
The Students’ Gala rewards academic excellence and civic involvement, while the Training Academy provides free non-formal education to over 2,000 participants yearly.
Leadership School and Representation School focus on developing leadership, advocacy, and institutional representation skills, especially for active volunteers.
The Union’s impact is reflected in national recognition, including multiple awards at the Romanian Youth Gala and the Civil Society Gala, confirming the quality and relevance of its initiatives.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
The Union of Students in Romania can actively contribute to the ALF Network by strengthening youth engagement, intercultural dialogue, and civic participation at the national level.
Through our extensive experience in student representation, non-formal education, and international cooperation, we can organise local and national initiatives that promote dialogue between cultures, inclusion, and active citizenship among young people. We aim to facilitate exchanges, debates, and participatory activities that connect students with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
Additionally, we can contribute to the Network by disseminating opportunities, fostering collaboration, and building partnerships between student organisations, civil society actors, and public institutions in Romania. As ALF members play a key role in sharing knowledge and organising joint activities, we are committed to actively engaging in network initiatives and contributing to collective projects.
We can also bring a strong youth perspective into the Network by promoting student voices in discussions related to democracy, inclusion, and intercultural understanding, thus contributing to the development of more participatory and youth-responsive initiatives.

We want to join the ALF Network because its mission of promoting intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding, and inclusive societies strongly aligns with our values and work.
As a student organisation, we believe that young people play a crucial role in building democratic, inclusive, and culturally diverse societies. The ALF provides a unique platform that connects thousands of civil society organisations across the Euro-Mediterranean region, enabling collaboration, knowledge exchange, and joint action.
By joining the Network, we aim to enhance our capacity, learn from international best practices, and engage in meaningful cross-border cooperation. At the same time, we are particularly interested in the funding opportunities and project calls launched within the ALF Network, which would allow us to develop and implement impactful initiatives focused on youth participation, intercultural dialogue, and active citizenship.
Access to ALF programmes, partnerships, and project funding would significantly strengthen our ability to scale up our activities and contribute to both national and international efforts in promoting inclusive and participatory societies.
Moreover, we are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to a shared vision of promoting peace, diversity, and dialogue between cultures, while empowering students to become active actors in shaping more inclusive and democratic societies.
