General Information

The Women’s Programs Association (WPA) is a non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO), legally registered with the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities since 2008. However, its history is rooted back in the 1950s when the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in the Near East (UNRWA) established sewing centers to support Palestinian refugee women in the camps in Lebanon. The Association is a manifestation of UNRWA’s support to the local community that gradually resulted in an independent entity working to promote its governance structures while maintaining its grass-roots approach and identity.

Mission and Objectives

WPA is currently working in eight different camps throughout Lebanon, from the South to the North and Beqaa, and employs a team of professional staff devoted to working in four different programs. Our Vision: We envision a society where Palestinian refugee women and youth as well as other vulnerable groups live in dignity. Our Mission: Women’s Programs Association (WPA) is a non-governmental, non-profit, impartial organization established in 2008. We aim to provide support to Palestinian refugee women and youth and other vulnerable groups in Lebanon to develop their capacities, realize their rights, and fulfill their needs. We achieve this through Protection, Education, and Livelihood. Our Values: At WPA, our work is guided by the values of Transparency, Integrity, Non-Discrimination and Respect for Human Beings.

Main Projects / Activities

In our strategy for 2024-2028, and based on our analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, we plan to pursue four strategic outcomes (SO) linked to three programs as follows: • Strategic Outcome 1 for the Protection Program: Women, youth, and other vulnerable community members empowered to protect themselves against the risks of violence, abuse, and discrimination. • Strategic Outcome 2 for the Education Program: The literacy level of children and youth residing in Palestinian refugee camps and surrounding areas enhanced. • Strategic Outcome 3 for the Livelihood Program: Women and youth empowered, and their capacity developed for enhanced economic sufficiency and livelihood improvement. • Strategic Outcome 4 for the Humanitarian Program: The lives of women, youth, and other vulnerable community members positively influenced, and their resilience enhanced during times of crisis. • Strategic Outcome 5 for Institutional Development: WPA strengthened to operate more efficiently and effectively.
