The Local Development Association was established in 2019 in Şanlıurfa to respond to the needs of local communities and reduce inequalities in regional development. Our foundation story is a result of efforts to create social transformation by combining the traditional culture of solidarity with a modern understanding of civil society.
Although Şanlıurfa has a deep-rooted cultural heritage, it is a region facing significant socio-economic challenges. In response to this reality, experts from public institutions, the private sector, and civil society came together to produce strategic solutions to mobilize local potential.
Our association works in the following areas:
•Empowerment of disadvantaged groups
•Support for education and vocational development
•Promotion of social integration
•Ensuring cultural and environmental sustainability
Since our establishment, we have supported individuals' active participation in economic, social, and cultural life through inclusive and participatory projects, developing collaborations both locally and internationally. Our association functions as a model structure that develops, implements, and promotes policies aligned with the goals of sustainable development while strengthening regional solidarity.
Mission and Objectives
Our Mission
We aim to contribute to building a strong and integrated civil society in a globalizing world. By guiding local civil society organizations, we are decisively progressing toward becoming a structure that:
•Builds effective collaborations,
•Adapts to changing and evolving conditions,
•Continuously learns and shares its knowledge.
Our Vision
As an association that supports social organization and helps establish participatory and pluralist democracy, our main goals include:
•Widening access to information,
•Enhancing the quality of life in society.
Main Projects / Activities
As the Local Development Association, we establish strong partnerships nationally and internationally to support local development, improve the quality of life for disadvantaged groups, and contribute to the sustainable development goals.
So far, we have developed 135 projects with:
•26 international organizations from 30 different countries,
•13 local municipalities,
•6 civil society organizations,
•4 public institutions.
Main partner countries include:
Germany, Tunisia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Denmark, Croatia, Spain, Morocco, Lebanon, Ukraine, Russia, Italy, Albania, Georgia, Latvia, North Macedonia, Lithuania, Kosovo, Jordan, Greece, Poland, France, the Netherlands, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, and Belarus.
The goals of these projects include:
•Strengthening social integration,
•Increasing employment,
•Enhancing the capacities of youth and women,
•Promoting intercultural dialogue.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
To foster the development of civil society in Turkey, we will leverage the experiences of the associations in the network and share them with other associations in Türkiye. We will strive to foster greater collaboration by fostering collaborative efforts between the associations in the network and those in Türkiye. Throughout this process, we will both learn new things and share our own experiences with other institutions.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
As an association, we aim to expand our network, reach more people, and create alternative funding sources. This will allow us to continue providing high-quality services and better serve our target group. We aim to increase our awareness through value-added services.
