Youth of Diverse Families is a youth-led civil society organization committed to advancing the rights, empowerment, and wellbeing of young people coming from socially vulnerable and non-traditional family structures. Founded with the belief that every young person deserves equal opportunities regardless of their family background, the organization works to address the systemic barriers faced by single-parent families, foster and adoptive families, children without parental care, and youth growing up in conditions of social or economic instability.
Our mission is to create a society in which diverse family constellations are recognized, accepted, and fully supported through adequate public policies, social protection mechanisms, and community solidarity. Through our work, we strive to elevate the voices of marginalized youth, strengthen their capacities, and advocate for structural change that ensures long-term inclusion and social cohesion.
The organization leads and participates in a wide range of activities that respond to the complex needs of these communities. We conduct research and analyses to better understand the challenges faced by socially marginalized youth groups and use this evidence to guide institutional dialogue and policy reform. Youth of Diverse Families organizes seminars, trainings, and skill-building activities aimed at improving young people’s competencies, employability, and participation in social life. We strongly emphasize youth engagement in public decision-making and support their active involvement in the creation of youth policies and programs alongside relevant institutions.
A significant part of our work focuses on awareness-raising for social cohesion and the acceptance of diverse family structures within society. We consistently engage in public advocacy and maintain communication with state authorities, lobbying for improvements in laws related to higher education, social protection, and financial support for children from vulnerable families. One of our key advocacy achievements includes the “Pay A Semester” initiative, designed to support students from under-resourced family backgrounds in accessing higher education.
The organization also plans and implements national and international youth projects and contributes to public dialogue through extensive media presence, donor events, and institutional cooperation. We have addressed policymakers at national and European levels, including through open letters submitted to the European Commission. Our humanitarian work includes annual holiday campaigns providing gifts and necessities for children and youth from socially marginalized families, highlighting our commitment to both structural change and direct community support.
Youth of Diverse Families is currently developing a platform that will offer legal, social, and psychological support tailored to the specific needs of vulnerable young people. Our broader vision is to introduce comprehensive legal, health, educational, and labor-market frameworks that respond to these unique needs and contribute to a more inclusive society.
Driven by empathy, data-informed advocacy, and youth leadership, the organization continues to grow as a voice for positive change—working to ensure that no young person is left behind due to the circumstances of their family background.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
Youth of Diverse Families can contribute to the Anna Lindh Network by bringing a unique perspective and expertise focused on the inclusion, empowerment, and representation of young people coming from diverse and often marginalized family structures. Our organization can strengthen the Network through:
- Promoting social cohesion and intercultural dialogue by raising awareness about the experiences, challenges, and strengths of youth from diverse family backgrounds, and fostering understanding and acceptance within communities.
- Conducting research and policy analysis that sheds light on the needs of socially marginalized youth and contributes to evidence-based policy recommendations at both national and regional levels.
- Organizing trainings, workshops, and capacity-building programs aimed at equipping young people with key skills, empowering them to participate actively in society, and strengthening youth leadership in areas such as social inclusion, human rights, and democratic participation.
- Supporting youth participation in decision-making by educating young people on how to engage with institutions and advocate for their rights, while also collaborating with governmental bodies on the development of youth-related policies.
- Advocacy and legal initiative work, including lobbying for improved social protection, education, and employment frameworks tailored to vulnerable youth groups, and sharing this experience with Network members.
- Implementing national and international projects aligned with the Anna Lindh Foundation’s mission, especially in the fields of social inclusion, education, intercultural understanding, and community resilience.
- Creating platforms for legal, social, and psychological support for vulnerable youth, which can serve as models for Network partners working with marginalized groups.
- Strengthening media visibility and public communication around issues connected to diversity, inclusion, and youth rights, thereby raising the visibility of the Network and its values.
- Designing and running community initiatives such as donation drives, awareness campaigns, and youth-led social projects — including ongoing initiatives like “Pay A Semester,” as well as seasonal solidarity actions for children and young people from marginalized families.
- Through these contributions, our organization can enrich the Anna Lindh Network with practical experience, community engagement, and a strong commitment to building inclusive, cohesive, and empowered societies.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
Youth of Diverse Families aspires to join the Anna Lindh Foundation Network because we believe deeply in the power of dialogue, collaboration, and shared values to transform societies. Our mission — to empower marginalized youth and promote understanding of diverse family structures — aligns naturally with the ALF’s vision of building inclusive, peaceful, and connected communities across the Mediterranean region.
By joining the ALF Network, we aim to expand our impact. Being part of this vibrant regional community will allow us to exchange knowledge, learn from best practices, and adopt innovative approaches in youth work, social inclusion, and human rights. The Network’s multicultural and multidisciplinary character represents an ideal environment for developing new ideas, strengthening intercultural sensitivity, and deepening our organizational expertise.
We also seek membership in order to collaborate on regional and international projects. As a youth-led organization working with vulnerable groups, we believe that cross-border cooperation is essential for addressing shared challenges — such as social exclusion, limited access to opportunities, and institutional barriers. The ALF Network would allow us to participate in joint initiatives, mobility programs, intercultural dialogues, and research collaborations that amplify youth voices.
Furthermore, we value the ALF’s commitment to bridging divides and promoting mutual understanding. In our work, stigma and misunderstanding toward diverse family structures remain significant obstacles. Through the ALF community, we hope to contribute to a broader cultural shift toward empathy, equality, and acceptance — while learning from partners who face similar issues in other countries.
Joining the Network also represents an opportunity to enhance our advocacy efforts. The credibility and visibility of ALF would support our mission to influence national policies on social protection, youth rights, and educational equity. We aim to elevate the concerns of marginalized young people, ensuring that their realities are reflected in national and regional decision-making.
Ultimately, our desire to become a member of the ALF Network is driven by our belief that meaningful change happens when organizations come together with shared purpose. We are motivated by the opportunity to collaborate, to grow, and to contribute to a Mediterranean region rooted in diversity, solidarity, and human dignity.
