The Member States of the Barcelona Process: Union for the Mediterranean have declared November 28th as the ‘Day of the Mediterranean,’ a day to celebrate our shared identity, embrace our common heritage and nurture the love we hold for our Mediterranean region.
In honour of this day, the ALF annually selects organisations to host simultaneous community-based musical performances across the 43 Mediterranean countries.
The Day of the Mediterranean initiative is not just about music; it’s about building connections, sharing experiences, and strengthening the collective voice of the Mediterranean people. It is a remarkable journey where music becomes a bridge, a powerful expression that connects us in ways words cannot.
The ALF provides the selected civil society entities with financial support to bring these musical concerts to life and proactively engage in regional outreach campaigns to effectively communicate and promote this initiative across the region. The initiative also aims to establish collaborative partnerships between civil society organisations and local administrations, to empower them at the local level while promoting the principles and values of the intercultural dialogue both on a grassroots scale and to broader audiences.
