Adults with a Cause: People 65+ as Drivers of Chan

Thematic area: Democracy and community development

Language: English

13-14 July 2026, Voyvodovo and Mandra, Haskovo Municipality, Bulgaria

The project empowers people aged 65+ from the villages of Voyvodovo and Mandra to become active volunteers and contribute to the development of their local communities. Around 20 older volunteers participated in training on 13–14 July together with young people who have previous volunteering experience.

During the training, participants explored the principles of volunteering, discussed local community needs and started developing their own initiatives, which they will implement in their villages. The project aims to show that age is not a barrier to active participation, but that the experience, knowledge, skills and motivation of older people are valuable resources for creating positive change.

Intergenerational cooperation is a key element of the project. Young volunteers share their knowledge, energy and perspectives, while older participants contribute their life experience, practical knowledge and understanding of local needs. This exchange encourages mutual learning and strengthens connections between generations.

Through volunteering and community action, “Adults with a Cause” supports older people in becoming active citizens and helps create stronger, more connected and inclusive communities.
