On 9 March, the Institut Europeu de la Mediterrània (IEMed) in Barcelona hosted a commemorative event honoring Anna Lindh, organized by the Spanish Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation and the Catalan Council of the European Movement. The gathering brought together institutional representatives, experts, and civil society to reflect on her values: dialogue, international cooperation, and human rights.

Senén Florensa, President of IEMed, highlighted Lindh’s courage and commitment:

“Anna Lindh never hesitated to adopt courageous positions in the defence of justice. She demonstrated that her commitment to human rights went beyond political priorities and diplomatic considerations.”
He added:

“Anna Lindh and her legacy are a light of hope in the moment we are living.”

Former Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde reflected on her guiding values:

“Her life shows how foreign policy is not only about strategy, but also about values: peace, cooperation and respect for human dignity.”

Sofia Geli of the Anna Lindh Foundation emphasized her human side:

“Anna Lindh represents not only the political figure, but also a courageous and approachable person, firmly committed to human dignity.”

The event concluded:

“Anna Lindh was assassinated, but her ideas were not.”
