FLAGSHIP PROGRAMMES
On Saturday, May 17th, APIS Institute hosted an engaging event exploring the theme of identity, difference, and the power of the gaze. The conversation featured Maša Kagao Knez and Irena Yebua Tiran, two Slovenian women with darker skin, who shared their personal experiences of navigating life while being perceived as visually different in their own country.
The discussion shed light on how these experiences shaped their identities and artistic expression. It was complemented by the presentation of the booklet Between Africa and Slovenia: The Art of Double Identity, written by Jasna Gabrovšek. The publication captures the reflections of three artists and their journeys through different life stages, emphasizing how external perceptions can influence internal narratives.
Intended for girls aged 9–14 who may themselves feel different, the booklet offers a meaningful resource to support young people in understanding and embracing diverse identities.
