Empathy, Online Narratives, and Violence on Social Media” was the theme of a seminar organized by the Civic Engagement Institute, featuring trainer Claudine Zaarour from Unity Up Lebanon, within the framework of the ALF in Motion programme.

As an awareness-raising and interactive activity focused on empowering young people in the face of the challenges of digital communication, it addressed how the narratives we build and share online affect perceptions, relationships and the social climate inside and outside school. Through open discussions, concrete examples and reflective exercises, students at Ismail Qemali High School in Tirana, analyzed:

  • The role of empathy in digital communication;
  • How narratives are created and spread on social networks;
  • Forms of online violence (bullying, hate speech, digital exclusion);
  • Psychological and social consequences of online violence;
  • Strategy for responsible response and peer support.

Emphasis was placed on the development of critical thinking, individual and collective responsibility, as well as building a culture of respect and understanding in digital spaces. The students' active participation, personal reflections, and willingness to share concrete experiences made the seminar an important step towards promoting more ethical, empathetic, and safe communication on social networks.
