Community Priorities First: Driving Gender-Responsive Budgeting Forward

Within the framework of the project "Equal Opportunities for ALL: Building Gender Responsive Sustainable Local Communities" on 24 and 25 December 2024 we have held 2 forums on gender-responsive budgeting in the municipalities of Kičevo and Jegunovce.

The forum was attended by almost all local stakeholders in the municipalities, starting with municipal representatives, including the mayor of the municipality of Jegunovce, representatives of the business sector, local institutions, schools, local civil society organizations, etc. Through discussion and group work, they highlighted their demands and needs that would improve their quality of life in the local community, such as more kindergartens, landscaping of public spaces, public lighting, increasing the safety of children and women, encouraging women and young people to start their own businesses, supporting traditional production, day care for the elderly, etc.

Their proposals, which at the same time targeted the specific needs of both men and women in the community, will be translated into separate civic initiatives that will be submitted to the municipality and will advocate for their interpretation into appropriate measures in accordance with the Municipal Budgets for 2025.

This initiative is part of the project "Together for Gender Equality: Building Support for Gender Inclusive Policies", implemented by HERA - Health Education and Research Association, and funded by the Government of the United Kingdom, with the support of the British Embassy Skopje.
