The Dutch Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation invited The Hague in Dialogue to provide a training in dialogue after Jolande Uringa, chair of Stichting Nes Ammim Nederland, explained the history and role of Nes Ammim, a village in Israel, with 50% Palestinians and 50% Jews in Israel. The village offers European volunteers the opportunity to engage in intercultural dialogue.  The group was split in two smaller groups of five people each with each group having an experienced professional dialogue facilitator. The first phase is the introduction of oneself in relation to the theme of the exhibition; Israel/Palestine, pain and hope. The second round is sharing experiences around this theme. In the third phase we share dreams and ideals and the last phase is about what concrete action we can engage in. The participants were very diverse: Jewish, Palestinian, religious and secular. Because the talks focused on personal experiences and not the larger political context, it became possible to understand different positions. In both groups pain was acknowledged and hopes expressed, leading to respect for others people otherwise would not have likely met.
