European Fellowship on Democratic Engagement

Thematic area: Youth and education

Language: English

01.06.2026-31.12.2026, Romania

A civic leadership programme designed for 40 young people from Romania aged 18-29 who wish to understand how European democracy functions, how public policies are constructed, and how they can actively contribute to Europe's future. The fellowship runs from June to December 2026, with seminars held in Bucharest from June to August 2026.

The opportunity is organized by GEYC in collaboration with IVC – In Varietate Concordia, within the framework of the EU-funded project EU-MATTER.

The European Fellowship on Democratic Engagement was created in response to critical challenges facing Europe: climate crisis, geopolitical instability, digital transformation, misinformation, social inequality, and declining trust in democratic processes. Young people are directly affected by these changes yet remain underrepresented in decision-making processes. EFDE aims to bridge this gap by equipping young citizens with comprehensive knowledge and practical tools to understand, analyse, and influence public policies shaping their future. Unlike programmes focusing solely on theory or activism, EFDE provides an integrated pathway: from civic knowledge and competencies to practical engagement, international collaboration, and co-creation of public policies.
