FILMMAKING FOR SOCIAL CHANGE

Thematic area: Human rights

Language: English

2025: 2026- Malta

FLIMSY project concluded successfully on 28 February 2026 after 18-month focusing on raising awareness about human trafficking through film making. Led by CCIF (Malta) and in partnership with SSH (Latvia) and StepUpStopSlavery (Cyprus), it united organizations, survivors, youth, and front line workers to shed light on trafficking issues and inspire social change. FLIMSY aimed to empower participants with film making skills and deepen their understanding of trafficking, culminating in a research report that informed authentic storytelling. Survivors and volunteers participated in workshops, with survivors sharing their lived experiences to shape narratives respectfully. Targeted training for front line staff enhanced their ability to identify and respond to trafficking, while youth programs combined awareness with practical film making, fostering advocacy. FLIMSY produced a collection of impactful films, including the advocacy documentary “Not As I Thought” and nine youth-produced films, reflecting diverse perspectives. Dissemination efforts included screenings across partner countries and an international film festival in Malta, reaching broad audiences and sparking dialogue. FLIMSY strengthened organizational capacities, increased awareness, and created valuable visual resources for ongoing education and advocacy. Its legacy lies in empowering survivors, fostering collaboration, and demonstrating the transformative power of film as a tool for social change, inspiring continued efforts to combat human trafficking.
