Getting There Together: Living Libraries in Action

Thematic area: Youth and education

Language: English

Ongoing international Erasmus+ project with activities across multiple countries

Jongeren voor Uitwisseling & Begrip (Youth for Exchange & Understanding), a valued member of the our ever-growing network, is inviting participants to explore innovative ways of fostering understanding and reducing prejudice through their international project “Getting There Together”, funded by the Erasmus+ programme.

This project develops a corporate Living Library methodology, combining organizational development with sensitivity training, allowing employees to become “living books” who share personal stories and factual knowledge about minority identities. By engaging in this interactive approach, participants learn to communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, and collaborate in diverse environments.

The initiative aims to strengthen networks between companies, volunteers, and organisations, while assessing needs, measuring impact, and empowering new volunteers. Living Libraries have been shown to reduce prejudice, foster empathy, and build strong group cohesion, creating inclusive workplaces and communities.

Readers and organisations interested in intercultural dialogue, social cohesion, or innovative diversity tools are encouraged to connect with the project and explore participation opportunities. This is a unique chance to experience firsthand how storytelling, empathy, and structured dialogue can transform understanding and collaboration.
