IIR public talk on warning signs and terorrism

Thematic area: Research

Language: English

13 October 2026, IIR Prague, Czechia

The Institute of International Relations Prague (IIR), Head Institution of the Czech Anna Lindh Foundation Network, invites the public to a talk by Astrid Bastiaens, PhD candidate at Maastricht University, focusing on the use of behavioural warning signs in the prevention of planned terrorist attacks.

Rather than focusing primarily on the strength of radical ideas, the talk will explore why behavioural indicators connected to attack planning may provide a useful basis for threat assessment. Astrid Bastiaens will introduce LATERAN-IT, a novel threat assessment instrument designed to identify warning signs associated with planned terrorist attacks. The instrument has recently been applied to the foiled attack targeting a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna as a case study, and the talk will also address further research in this field.

Astrid Bastiaens’ research combines terrorism studies with her background in forensic psychology and risk assessment.
