Intercultural Cities (ICC) Programme shows how cities and religious institutions can cooperate to strengthen cohesion and trust

The Intercultural Cities (ICC) Programme took part in the roundtable “The Role of Religious Institutions in Belonging and Civic Engagement in Europe”, held on 2 July 2025 in Luxembourg.

Co-organised by the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) Luxembourg Network, Formation et Sensibilisation de Luxembourg (FSL) and the Network for Dialogue (KAICIID), the event brought together local authorities, faith-based actors, and civil society organisations to explore the contribution of faith-based actors to social cohesion in diverse societies.

The ICC Programme presented its intercultural inclusion model and shared practical examples of how cities can engage religious institutions as long-term partners in local governance. Initiatives from member cities demonstrated how inclusive cooperation with faith-based actors can foster mutual understanding, trust, and civic participation.

The roundtable underlined the importance of structured, multistakeholder cooperation and reinforced the value of faith-based actors as co-creators of inclusion and democratic resilience.
