FLAGSHIP PROGRAMMES
Between July 5 and 11, 2025, the organisation Kudwa launched a three-part event series titled “Mawjat of Solidarity – Waves of the Mediterranean” in Barcelona, inviting local communities to engage in a process of reflection, creative expression, and mutual care.
The initiative explored the cultural and emotional landscapes of the Eastern Mediterranean, particularly Syria, through a variety of participatory and artistic formats. Open to the general public and the Syrian diaspora alike, the programme included exhibitions, workshops, and spaces for dialogue and remembrance.
The first public event, Wave of Hope and Solidarity, featured a photographic exhibition, a short documentary on memory and loss, a live talk with a guest journalist, and an artistic installation dedicated to Syria’s coastal communities. The evening concluded with a tasting of Syrian coastal cuisine, reinforcing the idea that solidarity can also be experienced through shared meals and cultural exchange.
Complementary activities included The Little Lantern, an online creative writing workshop held in English and Arabic, aimed at fostering emotional resilience and imagination, as well as two additional sessions: Wave of Grief and Care, a private Arabic-language gathering for the Syrian community to share experiences and healing practices, and Wave of Memory and Expression, a public workshop in Spanish using storytelling and visual arts to explore collective memory.
Rooted in values of empathy, cultural diversity, and shared humanity, the “Mawjat of Solidarity” initiative provided space for intercommunity connection, artistic reflection, and recognition of the Mediterranean as a site of both beauty and complexity.
