Lettre ouverte au gouvernement Luxembourgeois : près d’une cinquantaine d’ONG s’unissent afin d’exiger une action urgente pour Gaza

This joint statement by Luxembourg civil society organisations addresses the Luxembourg government, urging immediate action in response to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

According to reports by Amnesty International, the UN and UNICEF (as of May 2025), Gaza has suffered catastrophic damage since October 2023:

  • 95% of schools have been damaged or destroyed.

  • Over 55,000 people have been killed, including more than 15,600 children.

  • Around 470,000 people are facing famine due to the ongoing blockade and lack of essential goods.

  • Journalists and civilians continue to be killed or missing, and living conditions are worsening daily.

Key demands:
The signatories call on the Luxembourg government to:

  1. Increase pressure on Israel to end the siege and ensure unhindered access for UNRWA, UN agencies and humanitarian organisations.

  2. Suspend all arms transfers to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories and push for a complete European and international arms embargo.

  3. Support the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, combating impunity for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

  4. Recognise the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and a State of Palestine, as other European countries have done.

  5. Actively oppose the ongoing illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories, in line with the ICJ’s opinion of 19 July 2024.

  6. Defend these positions strongly at European level.

The statement clarifies that this does not question Israel’s right to exist but strongly condemns the current policies that have caused unprecedented humanitarian disaster. The signatories also call for the immediate release of all hostages, including children, and protection for all children, whether Palestinian or Israeli.

Finally, the declaration is signed by a wide coalition of Luxembourgish civil society organisations, including human rights, peace, environmental and cultural groups. The message closes with a clear appeal: “We cannot look away. Let’s act!”
