Member in Action: Sultanstrail Connects Cultures — From Bestseller to International Dialogue

Our network member Sultanstrail is making significant strides this summer, both on and off the trail.

In the German-speaking world, a new bestseller about the Sultanstrail has recently been published. Written by Austrian author Martin Zinggl, the book recounts his journey along the full route from Vienna to Istanbul — a quiet, personal expedition that has since captured the imagination of many. His story offers a powerful reflection on travel, culture, and the human experience.

In addition, Sultanstrail is pleased to announce two upcoming events, and warmly invite you to take part:

Travelers' Day – 9 November 2025, Haarlem, the Netherlands
A meeting point for walkers, thinkers, and dreamers along the route. This annual gathering offers space to share experiences, explore new ideas, and connect with like-minded individuals. We cordially invite you to attend this inspiring day.

Please save the date — Sultantrail looks forward to welcoming you.

International Symposium – 15–16 November 2025, Niš, Serbia
In collaboration with the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš, Sultanstrail’s Academic Council will host the third edition of the symposium series “Close Encounters Between East and West.” The theme of this year’s gathering: the role of cultural trails in promoting reconciliation and connection across the Balkans. Researchers, practitioners, and those with an interest in intercultural dialogue are encouraged to participate.

We are proud to highlight the work of Sultanstrail — an organisation that continues to build bridges between East and West through dialogue, scholarship, and movement.
