O Bairro – Photography Exhibition by Augusto Brázi

Thematic area: Arts

Language: English

18 October – 22 November 2025, Procurarte (Estrada Militar) – Lisbon, Portugal

Procurarte, in collaboration with Festival Imago Lisboa, presents the photography exhibition O Bairro by acclaimed Portuguese photographer Augusto Brázio, whose work has long explored themes of immigration, belonging, and urban transformation.

The exhibition portrays the neighbourhood of Reboleira, situated along Lisbon’s former Military Road, a 19th-century defensive line that evolved into a symbolic boundary between the city centre and its periphery. Through Brázio’s powerful black-and-white images, O Bairro captures the resilience and dignity of communities who built their homes and lives outside official urban planning, in what the artist calls an “architecture of survival.”

Organised within the framework of Festival Imago Lisboa, this initiative invites reflection on issues of urban inequality, memory, and identity, positioning photography as a bridge for intercultural dialogue. The exhibition underscores how visual storytelling can give voice to marginalised spaces and foster understanding between different social realities.

Open to the public from 18 October to 22 November 2025, the exhibition can be visited at Procurarte, Lisbon, from Tuesday to Friday, between 15:00 and 19:00.
