The ALF Cyprus network member Civil Society Advocates (CSA) announces the launch of POLIS FORUM, a 10-month project aimed at strengthening participatory and deliberative democracy in Cyprus. The project is implemented under the PLATO programme, co-funded by the European Union through the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) Programme, the Bodossaki Foundation, and the NGO Support Centre.
POLIS FORUM will pilot the Citizens’ Jury model in collaboration with the Municipality of Nicosia. This process brings together a representative group of citizens to examine public policy issues, engage with experts, deliberate collectively, and develop evidence-based recommendations.
CSA will also deliver capacity-building activities for civil society organisations and public officials, and establish a Civic Advisory Panel to support the design and implementation of the Citizens’ Jury. The project will culminate in a three-day Citizens’ Jury in Nicosia, producing policy proposals for the municipality. Findings will be compiled in a Policy Roadmap with recommendations for strengthening participatory governance in Cyprus.
Citizens and organisations are invited to follow the project’s progress. POLIS FORUM is implemented under the PLATO programme, with a total grant of €3.1 million. Funded by the European Union.
