FLAGSHIP PROGRAMMES
The event series (Re)imagining Freedom of Expression in Postdigital Societies, realized by the Astrian UNESCO Comission brings together scholars, artists, cultural practitioners, and activists to discuss the right to freedom of expression in the context of digitalization.
The first hybrid event in the series, "Memory & Identity," explores the relationship between freedom of speech and cancel culture by examining how these terms are used to fuel culture wars and suppress dissenting opinions in political struggles over public memory, identities, and belonging.
At a historical moment when private actors, such as large technology companies, have become key players in reshaping public space and discourse, it is crucial to collectively reflect on the values, goals, and limits of freedom of expression. What intellectual resources, technical frameworks, and legal infrastructures best serve the needs of democratic societies?
